IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. (Nasdaq: IDXX) announced on September 16, 2026, that it has acquired CoVetAI Inc., a provider of artificial intelligence-driven ambient listening and clinical workflow software for veterinary practices. The acquisition is intended to strengthen IDEXX’s connected diagnostic and software ecosystem by adding AI-native capabilities that improve efficiency, clinical decision-making, and diagnostic utilization. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Strategic Rationale for the Acquisition

CoVetAI has developed technology that automatically captures and organizes information across the patient care journey, from consultations to treatment planning and client follow-up. The software helps veterinary teams reduce documentation burden and save clinician time, serving both multipractice corporate groups and independent practices worldwide. IDEXX expects the acquisition to make information more accessible, actionable, and connected across the practice environment.

Leadership Perspectives

Mike Erickson, President and Chief Executive Officer of IDEXX, noted that veterinary practices are managing growing complexity and generating more information than ever before. He said clinical teams need better ways to capture, connect, and use that information, and CoVet brings leading workflow intelligence capabilities that complement the company’s existing portfolio. Erickson added that the combined offering can help veterinary professionals work more efficiently and unlock greater value from information generated throughout clinical workflows.

Yannick Bloem, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of CoVet, emphasized that the company’s mission has been to use technology to give veterinary professionals more time back for their patients and themselves. He explained that CoVet started with clinical documentation but sees a far greater opportunity for AI to transform the daily experience of practicing veterinary medicine. Bloem said that joining IDEXX can bring those benefits to veterinary teams around the world.

Integration and Ecosystem Benefits

IDEXX currently serves more than 10,000 clinics globally through its cloud-based practice management systems and has a long history of applying AI and advanced analytics across its portfolio. CoVet will be integrated into the IDEXX software ecosystem, which will continue to support other ambient scribe solutions and third-party integrations. CoVet will also maintain its integrations with non-IDEXX practice management systems, preserving flexibility for existing customers.

Combined with IDEXX software, diagnostics, clinical decision support tools, and the Vello Client Engagement Platform, CoVet creates opportunities for deeper integration of patient information before, during, and after clinical visits. Over time, these capabilities can help increase diagnostic utilization by surfacing relevant patient insights at key clinical decision points and by supporting more personalized client communication. The integration is also expected to create capacity for practices to see more patients.

Global Reach and Future Direction

CoVet’s multi-region footprint is expected to expand and enhance the impact of IDEXX software globally. The integration will include connectivity with IDEXX VetConnect PLUS and address practice team needs in geographies not currently served by IDEXX practice management systems. IDEXX believes the acquisition reinforces software and AI as strategic enablers of diagnostic insights, workflow efficiency, and practice performance.

The acquisition positions IDEXX to deepen its role in veterinary workflow intelligence by combining its diagnostic and software ecosystem with CoVet’s AI-native clinical documentation and workflow tools. By reducing administrative burden and surfacing patient insights at critical decision points, the combined platform aims to support expanded patient care and more efficient veterinary teams. While financial terms remain undisclosed, the transaction reflects IDEXX’s continued investment in software and AI as drivers of long-term practice performance.
