IASO Biotechnology has officially announced its acquisition of MediSix Therapeutics, a Singapore-based company specializing in immune cell engineering. This strategic transaction marks a significant milestone in IASO Bio's global expansion strategy, aiming to bolster its capabilities in the competitive cell therapy sector. The integration is set to combine MediSix's advanced T-cell engineering platform with IASO Bio's extensive manufacturing and commercialization infrastructure to accelerate the development of new treatments.

A Strategic Move for Global Expansion

The acquisition is a cornerstone of IASO Bio's long-term vision to establish a comprehensive global research, development, and operational system. By merging MediSix's specialized R&D pipeline and international talent with its own proven capabilities, IASO Bio aims to create a powerful synergy. This move is designed to streamline the path from laboratory innovation to commercial availability for groundbreaking cell therapies on a global scale.

Through this deal, IASO Bio gains access to a differentiated portfolio that addresses key challenges in the field. MediSix brings not only its innovative technology but also a robust network of international collaborations and a team with deep expertise. This strategic enhancement of its R&D framework is expected to significantly shorten development timelines and strengthen IASO Bio's position in the global market.

Integrating Innovative T-Cell Engineering

Founded in 2016, MediSix Therapeutics was established upon the pioneering research of Professor Dario Campana, a world-renowned expert in translational immunology. The company's foundation is built on his work with the 4-1BB (CD137) co-stimulatory domain CAR technology, a critical component in modern cell therapies. This strong scientific pedigree has attracted support from prominent international investors, including ClavystBio, Lightstone Ventures, and EDBI.

At the heart of MediSix's innovation is its proprietary Protein Expression Blocker (PEBL) platform. This technology is engineered to solve the critical issue of fratricide, where CAR-T cells inadvertently attack each other when targeting antigens present on both cancer cells and T-cells. By specifically blocking the expression of target proteins on the CAR-T cells, the PEBL platform enables more effective and safer treatments for T-cell malignancies.

Accelerating Clinical Development

MediSix has cultivated a promising pipeline of therapies, with its lead program, IASO107 (formerly PCART7), currently undergoing clinical evaluation. Early results from collaborations with leading research hospitals have indicated encouraging efficacy and safety signals, highlighting its potential. This program and others in the pipeline are aimed at addressing significant unmet clinical needs in hematologic cancers, solid tumors, and other diseases.

IASO Bio plans to leverage its extensive experience in Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC) and clinical development to expedite the progress of MediSix's assets. The company's proven track record of advancing a CAR-T therapy from research to commercial approval provides a clear pathway for accelerating these new programs. This operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness are expected to bring these innovative therapies to patients more quickly.

Leadership Perspectives on the Merger

Zhang Jinhua, Founder and CEO of IASO Bio, emphasized the acquisition's strategic importance, stating that MediSix's platform complements IASO Bio's existing pipeline, particularly in T-cell malignancies. She noted that the addition of MediSix's international team will significantly enhance global R&D capabilities and talent attraction. The goal is to harness deep synergies to deliver breakthrough therapies to more patients worldwide.

Investor representatives echoed this positive outlook, highlighting the complementary strengths of the two organizations. Mike Carusi, Chairman of MediSix and Managing Partner of Lightstone Ventures, pointed to IASO Bio's full-process platform as a powerful match for MediSix's T-cell engineering expertise. Similarly, Khoo Shih, CEO of ClavystBio, underscored the strong cross-border synergies that will enable the combined company to innovate at a greater scale.

Ultimately, the acquisition of MediSix Therapeutics by IASO Bio represents a significant consolidation of expertise and resources within the cell therapy industry. This strategic union is poised to create a more powerful and efficient entity capable of tackling complex diseases. By combining cutting-edge Singaporean science with established Chinese development and manufacturing prowess, the merged company is well-positioned to make a lasting impact on patient care globally.
