Headline, a London-based venture capital firm, has closed Headline EU VIII, its eighth early-stage fund dedicated to European founders, with US$400 million in capital commitments. The fund will back Seed and Series A companies across Europe, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence. The closing reinforces Headline’s two-decade presence in European technology and its commitment to supporting founders from first institutional rounds through global expansion.
Fund Focus and Global Platform
Headline EU VIII will target early-stage technology companies at the Seed and Series A stages, with an emphasis on artificial intelligence, robotics, and energy innovation. The firm manages more than US$5 billion in assets and operates from offices in Berlin, Hamburg, Luxembourg, Paris, London, San Francisco, São Paulo, Taipei, and Tokyo. This global platform is designed to help European founders hire internationally, enter new markets, and scale across borders from an early stage.
The new fund is the firm’s eighth dedicated European early-stage vehicle and builds on more than 20 years of investing across the continent. Headline was founded in 1999 and has teams across Europe, the United States, Latin America, and Asia. With a US$900 million Global Growth Fund available for later-stage capital, the firm can support portfolio companies well beyond their initial Seed or Series A rounds.
European AI Portfolio and Track Record
Headline’s European early-stage investments include Mistral, Black Forest Labs, Fundamental Technologies, Attio, Bioptimus, AMI Labs, Recursive Superintelligence, Farfetch, Raisin, Natural Cycles, Staffbase, DeepIP, Payflows, Primo, Searchable, Notch, and Procure AI. The firm first partnered with Mistral at the Seed stage in 2023, weeks after the company was founded, and has participated in every funding round since. Its most recent Mistral investment was in the Series D through the Global Growth Fund.
Mistral CEO Arthur Mensch said Headline has been more than a Seed investor and credited the firm with helping the company think bigger at every stage. He noted that Headline played a key role in Mistral’s US$415 million Series A, which remains the largest Series A ever raised in Europe. Mensch added that the firm was at its best during the moments that mattered most.
Supporting Expansion and Founder Ambition
Christian Miele, Partner at Headline, said founders in Europe today assume global scale from the first conversation and hire across borders from year one. He added that the case for partnering with European founders has become clearer with each fund. According to Miele, Headline EU VIII allows the firm to continue that work.
Headline has helped dozens of European companies expand to the United States, including Farfetch, NGINX, and Semrush. That support ranges from establishing a first US entity and making senior hires to introducing customers and preparing for a cross-border listing. Jon Userovici, Partner at Headline, said the next generation of great AI companies is being founded in Europe right now, and the firm wants to be their first call.
Userovici also highlighted the firm’s ability to lead a first round and later support a financing of US$100 million or more through the Global Growth Fund. He emphasized that the partner who wrote the first memo remains at the table. This continuity is central to Headline’s approach to early-stage investing and long-term partnership.
A Strategic Response to European Momentum
Beyond software, Headline sees growth in Europe emerging from the overlap of artificial intelligence, robotics, and energy. The firm argues that demographic change is pushing the region to invest more heavily in automation and productivity. Affordable energy, efficient management, and smarter procurement are therefore central to its broader investment thesis for the next decade.
With Headline EU VIII, the firm is pairing fresh early-stage capital with a global network that supports European founders from Seed to Growth. The fund’s focus on artificial intelligence reflects both the current market opportunity and the region’s strengthening technical talent base. Headline aims to remain a first-call partner for ambitious founders building category-defining companies from Europe.
