Firecrawl, a San Francisco-based startup co-founded by Brazilian entrepreneur Nicolas Silberstein Camara, has raised $75 million in a Series B funding round. The investment was led by Smash Capital and included participation from Altos, Nexus, Y Combinator, Freestyle, and Offline Ventures. The company develops infrastructure that scrapes and structures web data so artificial intelligence agents can understand and use online information more efficiently.

Series B Funding and Investor Support

The Series B round arrives one year after a $14 million Series A and follows an initial seed investment of $1.8 million. Firecrawl plans to use the new capital to hire talent, secure more graphics processing units, and strengthen its core product. Camara, who serves as chief technology officer, said the size of the round reflects strong demand for efficient AI data infrastructure.

Company Origins and Leadership

Firecrawl was founded in 2024 by Camara, Caleb Peffer, and Eric Ciarla as a spin-off from Mendable, a chatbot startup that the trio built and accelerated through Y Combinator in 2022. The company then pivoted to focus exclusively on business-to-business infrastructure for AI agents. Camara, 27, has lived in the United States since 2017 and studied computer science at the University of New Hampshire.

Technology Focused on Efficient Data Access

Traditional web scrapers often capture raw HTML that includes scripts, menus, and advertisements, creating unnecessary noise for artificial intelligence models. Firecrawl structures and filters web data so that agents receive only the relevant content they need. This approach reduces overall token consumption and lowers operating costs for companies that rely on AI systems.

Traction Among Global Companies

Firecrawl now reports more than 150,000 companies as clients, including Apple, Canva, Lovable, and Shopify, alongside 1.5 million developers worldwide. Camara said the startup saves customers 93 percent of token usage because they consume only what they need. That efficiency has helped the company build a large user base across multiple industries.

Open Source Strategy and Pricing

The technology is offered in open source form and remains free on the most basic plans, which supports rapid adoption. Customers with high token usage are charged, and monthly bills can exceed 3,000 Brazilian reais. Camara explained that open source serves as an entry point and a highly effective marketing tool for the startup.

Brazil Expansion Plans

Brazil is among the fastest markets for artificial intelligence adoption and is expected to become a strategic focus for Firecrawl next year. The startup aims to grow its Brazilian user base tenfold from the current 40,000 users. It also plans to open an office in the country during the next year, supported by the new Series B capital.

The Alexandria Project

Part of the funding will support Alexandria, which Camara describes as the company's most ambitious project. Alexandria is planned as a repository of scientific research, public documents, legislative materials, and other structured data for real-time access by AI agents. The goal is to function like a Wikipedia for AI agents, bringing multiple sources into a single infrastructure that updates as new information emerges.

The Series B round positions Firecrawl to expand its infrastructure and deepen its presence in key markets such as Brazil. By combining open source access with an ambitious data repository effort, the startup is targeting the foundational layer that AI agents need to operate effectively. As agent-based applications continue to grow, Firecrawl's focus on efficient and structured data could make it a central player in the next wave of AI development.
