Copenhagen-based Financial News Systems (FNS) has successfully secured $1.7 million in a pre-seed funding round led by Ugly Duckling Ventures. The company specializes in providing AI-driven, real-time financial news and data for investment professionals. This new capital will be instrumental in accelerating the development and expansion of its innovative market intelligence platform.

A New Era for Financial Intelligence

FNS is pioneering an "AI-only newsroom" model designed to replace traditional financial journalism workflows with full automation. Its platform processes press releases and regulatory filings instantly, delivering structured intelligence with near-zero latency. The service currently covers over 9,000 companies across the United States, Canada, and Europe, providing a significant edge to its users.

Strategic Investment from Ugly Duckling Ventures

The €1.5 million investment from Ugly Duckling Ventures reflects a growing confidence in AI-powered financial infrastructure startups. As part of the funding agreement, Andreas Green Rasmussen of Ugly Duckling Ventures will join the FNS board of directors. This move signals a strong partnership and provides FNS with experienced guidance as it scales its operations.

The venture firm cited the exceptional founding team and their proven track record as a key factor in its decision to invest. Andreas Green Rasmussen noted that the team has "built and exited in this space before" and is now poised to build something even bigger. This endorsement highlights the deep industry expertise that underpins the company's ambitious vision for the future.

Proven Leadership and Validated Technology

The company is led by co-founders Gelu Sulugiuc, the CEO, and Nicolai Bjerre Pedersen, the CTO. Both founders bring extensive experience from roles at major financial institutions like Reuters and Bloomberg. Their previous venture, PLX AI, was successfully acquired by Thomson Reuters in 2022, demonstrating their ability to build and scale valuable fintech solutions.

The platform's technology has already demonstrated impressive real-world performance, delivering alerts on M&A activity and earnings reports in milliseconds. This speed and accuracy have attracted key clients, including a foundational partnership with Dow Jones Newswires from day one. Such early traction provides strong validation of the product's value proposition in a competitive market.

Future Growth and Market Expansion

With the new funding, Financial News Systems plans to significantly enhance its AI models and broaden its data offerings. The company aims to expand its coverage to include additional critical data categories like IPOs, insider trading, and key macroeconomic indicators. This strategic expansion will further solidify its position as a comprehensive source for automated financial intelligence.

This pre-seed funding marks a pivotal moment for Financial News Systems, empowering it to challenge established players in the financial data industry. With a seasoned leadership team, validated technology, and the strategic backing of Ugly Duckling Ventures, the company is well-positioned for significant growth. FNS is set to play a key role in shaping the future of automated, real-time financial news delivery.
