Harbinger, an American automotive and industrial manufacturer, has announced a binding order from FedEx for 2,000 of its all-electric trucks. The total order value exceeds $300 million, and the transaction is believed to be one of the largest binding orders for electric medium- or heavy-duty trucks in history. The agreement expands FedEx's use of Harbinger vehicles and supports the company's ongoing fleet electrification strategy.

Order Details and Strategic Expansion

The vehicles are planned for delivery by the end of 2027 for deployment across FedEx pickup and delivery operations in the United States and Canada. The new order builds on a previous successful deployment of Harbinger vehicles within the FedEx network. It also follows FedEx's earlier co-lead investment in Harbinger's $160 million Series C equity raise.

Executive Perspective

John Harris, Co-Founder and CEO of Harbinger, said FedEx is demonstrating that the business case for incorporating electric vehicles into real-world fleet operations at scale makes sense. He noted that previous work together gave FedEx firsthand experience with the performance and economic advantages Harbinger vehicles can deliver. Harris added that Harbinger is proud a global leader is turning sustainability goals into action by choosing its electric trucks.

Replacing Conventional Trucks

Harbinger's electric vehicles will serve as one-for-one replacements for conventional diesel trucks, helping FedEx reduce emissions and modernize its fleet. The order includes a mix of models from Harbinger's all-electric vehicle lineup. Company leaders said electrifying a fleet at this scale requires vehicles that can perform demanding operational work while delivering economic benefits.

Fuel Savings and Economic Impact

Harbinger estimates that each of its electric trucks reduces fuel costs by an average of $20,000 annually compared with the conventional diesel vehicle it replaces. Across 2,000 vehicles deployed in a single North American fleet, that amounts to approximately $40 million in annual fuel savings. Over a typical 20-year medium duty truck service life, the total savings could reach about $800 million.

Environmental Benefits

Beyond operating savings, the shift to electric vehicles offers substantial environmental advantages. Using published data from the Department of Energy, Harbinger estimates that replacing 2,000 diesel trucks with its electric trucks will avoid more than 1.7 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions over their operating lives. This supports FedEx's broader efforts to reduce emissions and translate sustainability goals into action.

Driver Experience and Vehicle Design

Harbinger vehicles are designed with driver comfort and safety as central priorities, featuring improved suspension and handling along with modern safety and advanced driver assistance technology. Responsive steering and an industry-leading 42-foot turning diameter make the trucks easier to maneuver on tight city and residential streets. They are also engineered for a 20-year service life, matching the typical life of class 5 and 6 medium duty trucks.

Delivery Timeline and Canadian Support

Harbinger plans to build and deliver all 2,000 vehicles within approximately 18 months, a schedule that reflects the manufacturer's production capacity and the scale of the order. The Canadian portion of the deployment will be supported by Harbinger's Canadian dealer, Kaizen Automotive Group, ensuring localized service and delivery coordination. This timeline supports FedEx's goal of expanding its electric fleet across the United States and Canada by the end of 2027.

FedEx executives said expanding the deployment of Harbinger vehicles gives the company an opportunity to continue making progress toward fleet electrification goals while reducing fuel and operating costs. The order also supports a more modern, efficient, and intelligent fleet that meets the needs of customers, team members, and global operations. For Harbinger, the agreement validates its position as a growing partner for commercial fleets seeking practical electric vehicle solutions at scale.
