fal has acquired Lucent, an artificial intelligence agent platform for creative media, and is bringing its two co-founders in-house as part of a broader investment in builders shaping the future of generative media. Dimi Panagiotopoulos and Alex Koumpas built Lucent into a distinctive agentic creative platform that gained rapid traction after its November 2025 launch. The acquisition, with terms not disclosed, highlights fal's strategic focus on orchestration and judgment as generative model quality converges across the industry.
Founders with technical depth and creative instinct
Panagiotopoulos is a hybrid of engineer and creative technologist. By the age of 21 he had built and shipped energy optimization algorithms running on eight Formula 1 cars and had been a content creator since age 13, producing videos viewed millions of times. He later built an LLMOps product at the intersection of large-scale AI systems and creative output.
Koumpas is an engineer and operator who reaches hard technical frontiers early and builds where value concentrates. He previously worked as a quantitative trader at a multibillion-dollar hedge fund and competed as a professional track and field athlete. He built and sold an AI-driven quant trading startup to one of the fastest growing FinTech companies before entering generative media.
Rapid adoption in a demanding creative domain
Lucent launched in November 2025 and immediately showed strong product-market fit. Within three weeks it had more than 16,000 active creators generating over 75,000 assets, and it surpassed 30,000 users shortly after. The founders built the platform for advertising, a domain with high volume, strict brand requirements, and little room for error.
Unlike most creator tools at the time, Lucent did not hand users another canvas of manual controls. It allowed them to brief an agent in plain language while the platform orchestrated models, edits, and brand rules behind the scenes. The approach has only recently become a broader market direction.
Market context for generative media
The generative media landscape has shifted quickly, with model quality increasingly becoming table stakes. As a result, differentiation is moving toward the ability to understand user intent, manage complex workflows, and enforce brand or production rules. Lucent's agent-based approach placed it ahead of this curve by automating the orchestration layer rather than adding another manual tool.
Strategic emphasis on orchestration and judgment
Burkay Gur, CEO at fal, said the company looks for a specific kind of builder who is technical enough to build anything, business-minded enough to understand why it matters, and wired to figure things out when the path is not obvious. He noted that Panagiotopoulos and Koumpas have exactly that profile. He added that in a market reshaping itself every few months, that instinct is the most valuable addition to a team.
About fal
fal is a generative media platform powering image, video, and audio generation for enterprises and developers. The company provides access to more than 1000 models and operates a differentiated inference engine with over 1300 production endpoints. The acquisition reflects fal's belief that durable value increasingly moves to judgment and orchestration as generation quality converges.
With this acquisition, fal is investing in the people and systems that can guide generative media from raw model output to finished creative work. Panagiotopoulos and Koumpas bring expertise in agentic creative platforms and hard operational environments such as advertising. While financial terms were not disclosed, the move signals a clear strategic priority around orchestration, judgment, and the builders who can deliver both.
