Emerald AI, a company dedicated to integrating data centers into the power grid as flexible assets, has successfully closed an oversubscribed $150 million Series A funding round. This investment, co-led by Energize Capital and DCVC, elevates the company's valuation to a notable $1.05 billion. The new capital is earmarked to scale the global commercial deployment of its technology, which directly addresses the immense energy demands of the artificial intelligence industry.


A Software Solution for a Strained Grid

The rapid expansion of artificial intelligence is creating an unprecedented challenge for global energy infrastructure, with data centers expected to drive nearly half of U.S. electricity demand growth by 2030. Traditional grid expansion is a slow process, often taking a decade or more, creating a significant power bottleneck for AI development. Emerald AI confronts this issue head-on by reimagining the relationship between data centers and the power grid.

The company's core innovation is the Emerald Conductor software platform, which transforms data centers from static power consumers into dynamic, grid-aware assets. It intelligently orchestrates computational workloads and on-site energy resources, allowing a facility to precisely control its power draw when the grid is under stress. This process ensures that critical AI operations continue without interruption while simultaneously bolstering local energy reliability and affordability.

From Successful Demonstrations to Commercial Reality

Before securing this funding, Emerald AI rigorously validated its technology through five successful demonstrations at commercial data centers in Arizona, Illinois, Virginia, Oregon, and London. These trials, conducted with key industry partners including NVIDIA, Oracle, and National Grid, proved that AI facilities can flex their power use on demand. The completion of this phase confirmed the platform's capability to operate effectively within live, complex commercial environments.

The company has now advanced to full commercial scaling, with its software already deployed across an entire data center in California to provide grid flexibility during peak strain. Furthering this momentum, Emerald AI is launching a first-of-its-kind program with Silicon Valley Power that grants data centers expanded grid access in exchange for dispatchable flexibility. This transition from pilot programs to live commercial contracts marks a significant milestone in the company's growth.

Strategic Backing and Future Deployments

The financing round attracted a powerful coalition of investors, including 12 Fortune Global 500 companies such as NVIDIA, Samsung Ventures, and Siemens. John Tough of co-lead investor Energize Capital emphasized that power is the new binding constraint on AI and praised Emerald AI's rapid commercialization. Similarly, Zachary Bogue of co-lead DCVC highlighted the technology's ability to turn data centers into valuable grid-responsive assets instead of liabilities.

A key upcoming project is the collaboration with Digital Realty and NVIDIA to bring online the world's first power-flexible AI factory in Manassas, Virginia. This nearly 100-megawatt facility, named the Vera Rubin AI Research Factory, is slated to come online later this year. Such large-scale deployments demonstrate the growing industry confidence in Emerald AI's solution for harmonizing advanced AI infrastructure with existing power grid capabilities.


This $150 million investment firmly positions Emerald AI to redefine the energy footprint of the artificial intelligence industry, ensuring its growth is both rapid and sustainable. By enabling data centers to function as supportive grid partners, the company's technology can unlock over 100 gigawatts of untapped capacity on the existing U.S. grid alone.
