The European Investment Bank and Deutsche Bank have launched a partnership to back €560 million in new investment for Europe’s space sector. The financing will support companies across the European Union. It targets satellite, launch, and in-orbit service businesses.

How the financing works

The agreement gives Deutsche Bank long-term funding and flexible structures for lending to space companies. Around half of the financing is expected to go to businesses in Germany. The remainder will target businesses elsewhere in the EU.

ESA cooperation

The initiative builds on cooperation between the EIB and the European Space Agency. ESA provides market intelligence and sector expertise for financing solutions aimed at space SMEs and mid-caps. The work was announced ahead of ESA’s Space Investor Forum in Munich on October 29 and 30.

Technologies supported

The financing will back reusable launchers, spacecraft, and advanced propulsion systems. It will also support satellite manufacturing and Earth observation. Those technologies serve communications, navigation, wildfire detection, pollution monitoring, and security.

The partnership is part of Space TechEU, the EIB’s dedicated space financing program. That program aims to mobilize an estimated €1.4 billion with commercial banking partners. It complements direct loans, venture debt, equity investment, and advisory services from the EIB Group.
