Bonbon Mobility, a Ho Chi Minh City-based startup, announced on 21 September 2026 that it has raised a US$500,000 pre-seed round led by Tasco CVC with participation from GenAI Fund. The company is building an online-to-offline platform that connects car owners with garages and automotive care providers across Vietnam. The investment follows Bonbon's creation through a corporate venture-building programme focused on the country's fragmented car-care market.
A Venture Built from a Fragmented Market
Vietnam's car-care sector includes more than 12,500 car-wash and vehicle-care facilities, many of which are independent operators with limited digital tools. For car owners, booking a wash, detailing job or routine maintenance service often still depends on phone calls and word-of-mouth recommendations. Bonbon aims to place a digital layer over this experience by aggregating existing providers rather than building a new physical chain.
Solving a Two-Sided Challenge
On the demand side, Bonbon helps car owners discover nearby services, understand what is offered and manage their vehicle care more easily. On the supply side, garages gain digital visibility, better customer reach and tools that can support service information and operational management. The company will initially focus on frequent needs such as car washing and routine vehicle care before moving into maintenance, detailing and other lifecycle services.
Corporate Venture Building in Practice
The startup emerged from Tasco Foundry Wash3000, a venture-building programme run by Tasco and GenAI Fund to test new business models within Vietnam's automotive service value chain. The programme identified a practical market problem and shaped a startup around it before external capital was committed. This approach is intended to reduce early uncertainty around market access and industry relevance while requiring the team to prove operational discipline.
Tasco's Strategic Role and Platform Ambitions
Tasco brings more than capital to Bonbon, offering access to car owners, distribution channels, payment infrastructure and services tied to vehicle ownership. Bonbon may eventually connect its partner garage network with VETC, the electronic toll collection platform within Tasco's broader mobility ecosystem. That integration could shorten the startup's customer acquisition path and make it easier for drivers to find and use car-care services.
A Selective Funding Environment
The round arrives at a time when Southeast Asian startup investment remains cautious. GenAI Fund cited regional data showing US$2.81 billion in investment across only 98 equity transactions in the first quarter of 2026, the lowest deal count in at least eight years. Investors now favour clear problems, disciplined execution and credible routes to revenue over rapid user growth alone.
Competitive Landscape and Next Steps
Bonbon faces a regional market where players such as Otoklix in Indonesia and Bateriku in Malaysia have already built automotive service platforms. Larger used-car platforms like Carsome and Carro have also moved into servicing and aftersales, while global examples include YourMechanic and AutoGuru. The new capital will be used to expand Bonbon's garage network, improve its technology platform, enhance user experience and broaden its service portfolio.
Leadership and Market Outlook
Bonbon's founding team includes Nguyen Chi Dung, Vu Duy Hung and Nguyen Le Phong, with Nguyen Chi Dung serving as founder and chief executive officer. Vietnam's car ownership is growing from a lower base than more mature markets, while urban consumers are increasingly comfortable with app-based services. This creates an opportunity for Bonbon to organise demand, but only if it earns the trust of both drivers and garage operators.
Bonbon's early advantage lies in its access to Tasco's ecosystem and the venture-building support of GenAI Fund. Its longer-term test will be whether it can turn Vietnam's fragmented car-care providers into a reliable, convenient and transparent service network. The pre-seed round gives the startup room to prove that consistent quality can be delivered at scale.
