Bolt has expanded its parcel delivery service, Bolt Send, in Mombasa by introducing a motorbike option for faster and more flexible deliveries. This new feature, launched on August 18, 2026, complements the existing car-based service and is designed to cater to the city's burgeoning e-commerce sector. The move aims to provide a more efficient solution for transporting small, time-sensitive packages across the coastal city.

Enhancing Urban Logistics

The addition of motorbikes addresses a practical gap in urban logistics, where small parcels often require a swift but affordable transport solution. Motorbikes can navigate congested streets and access locations more easily than larger vehicles, making them ideal for short-distance deliveries. This enhancement provides a reliable alternative to informal arrangements or waiting for dedicated courier services for smaller items.

This strategic move is part of Bolt's broader effort to leverage its existing technology and partner network to meet evolving urban needs. The expansion reflects a wider trend in Kenya where businesses increasingly rely on smaller vehicles for efficient goods movement in busy cities. By integrating this option, Bolt is adapting its services to the local logistical landscape and improving last-mile delivery capabilities.

Supporting Mombasa's Business Community

The service is tailored to support Mombasa's growing ecosystem of small and medium-sized businesses, including online sellers, retailers, and pharmacies. According to Dimmy Kanyankole, Senior General Manager for Rides in East Africa, timely delivery is now a central part of customer service. Delayed deliveries can result in lost sales and unnecessary operational costs for these enterprises.

The on-demand model allows businesses to access delivery capacity as needed without the significant costs of maintaining their own fleet. This flexibility helps companies manage logistics more efficiently and respond to customer orders in real time. It transforms delivery from a logistical challenge into an integrated part of the customer experience, which is crucial in a competitive market.

Seamless Integration and New Opportunities

Customers can easily request the service through the existing Bolt application, where they receive an upfront price estimate and can track their parcel's journey. Eligible Bolt driver-partners transport the packages, offering a streamlined and transparent process from start to finish. This integrated system is designed for convenience for both individuals and business clients.

The introduction of the motorcycle option also creates new earning avenues for Bolt's driver-partner community. Eligible motorcycle partners can now take on parcel deliveries in addition to other services available on the platform. This move allows them to participate more actively in the expanding digital and delivery economy, diversifying their income sources.

The launch of Bolt Send's motorcycle service in Mombasa marks a significant step in enhancing the city's last-mile delivery infrastructure. By providing a faster, more agile solution, Bolt is supporting local commerce and adapting to evolving consumer expectations. This strategic expansion ultimately benefits businesses, consumers, and driver-partners, reinforcing the platform's role in the urban economy.
