AURA Integrates Google Maps Platform for Emergency Response

The upgrade improves routing, ETAs, and responder coordination across four markets

South African emergency-response technology company AURA is upgrading its responder navigation system through a development collaboration with Google Maps Platform, aiming to improve routing, arrival estimates, and incident coordination. Announced on July 28, 2026, the integration will be deployed across AURA’s operations in South Africa, Kenya, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The company said it is the first emergency-response platform authorized to embed Google Maps Platform navigation directly within its responder application.


Improving Emergency Response Navigation

The platform-wide update will introduce Google Maps Platform capabilities across AURA’s responder applications, customer-facing apps, and dispatch systems, providing each participant with more consistent location and routing information. By using real-time traffic intelligence and live road conditions, the technology is intended to help responders avoid congestion and identify more efficient routes to an incident. Even modest reductions in travel time can be significant during security or medical emergencies, when delays may directly affect outcomes.

More Accurate Arrival Estimates

AURA’s platform connects users with nearby private security and medical responders selected from a network of thousands of response resources. Integrating Google Maps Platform routing and traffic capabilities is expected to produce more reliable estimated arrival times as responders travel toward an incident. Users awaiting assistance will receive clearer information about the location of the dispatched responder and the time at which help is expected to arrive, potentially reducing uncertainty during stressful situations.

Greater Consistency Across the Response Network

Responders will receive turn-by-turn navigation within AURA’s application through technology based on the Google Maps Platform Navigation SDK, rather than relying on separate mapping tools. The integration will also align AURA’s operational performance measurements with actual driving conditions, allowing security officers and medical personnel to be assessed against timelines that reflect traffic and route conditions. AURA said trip and incident information will remain within its secure closed-loop ecosystem despite the use of Google’s global mapping infrastructure.

Supporting AURA’s International Expansion

AURA Chief Technology Officer Grant Macwilliam said the company requires responders, controllers, partners, and customers across its international markets to operate from a consistent and accurate source of location intelligence. The integration was facilitated by Localyse, a Google Maps Premier Partner that specializes in helping businesses implement and optimize location-based services. Localyse worked with Google and AURA to support the emergency-response use case and enable the company to deploy the navigation technology across its platform.

Building Trust Through Location Accuracy

AURA CEO and co-founder Warren Myers said reliable location and arrival information is central to maintaining trust when users activate panic buttons, request medical assistance, or call for security support. The navigation upgrade forms part of the company’s broader strategy to build a scalable emergency-response platform capable of delivering consistent service across different countries and operating environments. Founded in Johannesburg in 2017, AURA uses technology to coordinate on-the-ground security and emergency assistance throughout South Africa, Kenya, the United Kingdom, and the United States.


The collaboration reflects the growing role of mapping, traffic data, and embedded navigation in improving technology-enabled emergency services. By standardizing navigation and ETA calculations through Google Maps Platform, AURA intends to provide faster routing, greater operational transparency, and more dependable information for responders, control centers, partners, and users. As the company continues its international expansion, the upgrade is expected to strengthen the technical infrastructure supporting its emergency-response network while establishing a more consistent experience across its markets.
