Antwerp-based Artwod has raised €1.1 million in Seed funding to expand its guided learning and community platform for visual artists. The round was led by Airbridge Equity Partners, with participation from ForsVC, and will support product development, stronger personalization, community growth, and the launch of a creator marketplace. The financing comes as Artwod seeks to deepen engagement among its global artist community while creating new ways for experienced users to earn income by helping others improve.
Building a Platform for Artistic Development
Founded in 2020 by Antonio Stappaerts, Artwod was created around the idea that artists improve through consistent practice, structured guidance, feedback, and repetition. Stappaerts, a former Creative Director and professional Concept Artist who has worked with companies including Ubisoft and Sony Entertainment, developed the platform based on his experience in the creative industry. Artwod now combines educational tools with community interaction to help artists identify weaknesses, practice targeted skills, and track their progress over time.
The platform draws inspiration from learning and community products such as Duolingo and Chess.com, combining guided exercises with peer engagement. Users can share artwork, receive feedback and personalized recommendations, and follow short structured learning paths called Learning Roads that address specific areas for improvement. As artists continue using the platform, their learning activity, feedback, and progress help refine the guidance they receive and make future recommendations more relevant.
Expanding Community and Personalization
Artwod has grown to more than 100,000 artists worldwide over the past 18 months, according to the company. During the development of its community features, daily platform traffic increased by more than 500%, while daily engaged usage rose by more than 400%. The company said this growth reflects stronger adoption of features that allow artists to learn, exchange feedback, and integrate the platform into their regular creative practice.
The new capital will be used to strengthen personalization, improve the connection between user feedback and learning recommendations, and develop systems intended to encourage continued participation. Artwod also plans to invest in community features that make it easier for artists to support one another throughout their development. The company recently partnered with drawing tablet manufacturer Wacom to provide digital artists with access to personalized feedback and guided practice.
Launching a Creator Marketplace
A major focus of the funding will be the development of a marketplace that allows experienced community members to monetize their expertise. Under the planned model, artists who consistently provide high-quality feedback will be able to offer paid critiques, guidance, and other support directly to less experienced users. Artwod believes the marketplace could give creators an additional source of income based on their knowledge, judgment, and experience rather than solely on the sale of finished artwork.
The initiative is being developed as generative AI continues to reshape creative industries and raise questions about the economic value of human creative work. Stappaerts said the company views artistic creation as a personal process whose value extends beyond the final product, emphasizing the importance of learning, expression, and participation. Artwod's long-term strategy is therefore centered on supporting human creativity while creating an environment where artists can both develop their abilities and benefit financially from helping others.
Investor Support
Airbridge Equity Partners Managing Partner Rick van Boekel highlighted Artwod's combination of user engagement and community loyalty as a key reason for backing the company. He said the platform has built a strong foundation through structured learning, creator participation, and high levels of customer satisfaction. Artwod plans to draw on its investors' experience across consumer products, gaming, and the creator economy as it develops the next phase of the business.
With its €1.1 million Seed round, Artwod is preparing to expand from a learning and feedback platform into a broader ecosystem for artistic development and creator income. The company intends to use improved personalization, stronger community participation, and its planned marketplace to reinforce engagement among both aspiring and experienced artists. Its broader goal is to become a global destination where visual artists can improve their skills, document their progress, and generate value by sharing their expertise with others.
