Anthropic has made Claude for Google Workspace available as a public beta on all paid Claude plans, bringing its AI assistant directly into Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. The add-on lets users work with Claude without leaving their open files, streamlining writing, analysis, and presentation tasks. Anthropic also introduced Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides connectors in beta, enabling Claude to create and edit Google files from its chat interface.

Working Directly Inside Google Workspace

Claude opens in a sidebar next to the active file, so users do not need to switch between apps or browser tabs. The assistant can read the open document, sheet, or slide deck and recognize selected text, cells, or slides. It can then make changes directly in the file while preserving the surrounding work.

Capabilities Across Docs, Sheets, and Slides

In Google Docs, Claude can revise a sentence or restyle a heading without disturbing existing formatting. For larger rewrites, it presents proposed edits as suggestion cards in the sidebar, and each card highlights the passage it would change. Users can apply or dismiss suggestions and ask Claude to tighten an executive summary or turn next steps into a table.

In Google Sheets, Claude can write formulas, build pivot tables, produce native charts, and add new tabs. For data joins or cleaning tasks, it can pull a range into Python and write results back into the sheet. Users can start with an empty sheet, attach source files, and request a Q3 budget versus actuals report with a tab for each team and a summary chart.

In Google Slides, Claude can build new slides from the deck's existing layouts and themes so the output matches the rest of the presentation. It can also check its own work and flag elements that overlap, run off the slide, or contain text that is hard to read. This reduces the need for manual cleanup after users generate a deck.

Approval Controls and Enterprise Governance

Users decide how much Claude completes on its own through two editing modes. In the default "Ask before edits" mode, every change appears as an approval card with a summary, and Claude waits before applying the edit. In "Accept all edits" mode, Claude works through the task and applies changes without stopping for confirmation.

When users sign in with a Claude account, the sidebar carries over the same models, connectors, and skills available in the standard Claude experience. Claude can pull account history from Salesforce and recent call notes through the Google Drive connector to build a quarterly business review deck. On Enterprise plans, controls such as the Compliance API, customer-managed encryption keys, and OpenTelemetry audit export also apply to the add-on.

Editing and Availability

The new Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides connectors allow users to start in Claude and create or edit Google files directly from a conversation. Users can paste a Google file link or ask for a Google doc, sheet, or deck, and on supported setups the file opens in a pane beside the conversation. Claude's access matches the user's existing Google sharing permissions, which supports consistent file security.

Claude for Google Workspace is in beta on all paid Claude plans. Users can install it from the Google Workspace Marketplace, open a file, and navigate to Extensions, Claude, and Open Claude. Administrators can deploy the add-on to a domain or selected groups from the Google Admin console, and the Help Center guide covers setup; on Team and Enterprise plans an owner or primary owner must enable the connectors first.

The public beta of Claude for Google Workspace signals deeper integration of AI assistance into everyday productivity workflows. Users can draft, analyze, and present with Claude without switching applications, while approval modes and enterprise controls preserve oversight. The new connectors extend that workflow from Google files into Claude, making the assistant more useful across both environments.
