Anthropic has launched Claude Frontier Academy, a new training initiative backed by a $100 million commitment to address the shortage of engineers capable of deploying artificial intelligence inside large organizations. The company aims to train 10,000 Frontier Deployed Engineers by the end of 2027, with the first cohorts already underway in San Francisco, New York, and London. Participants from Accenture, Bain, Capgemini, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Deloitte, McKinsey, Morgan Stanley, Novo Nordisk, and other organizations are among the initial groups.

Addressing the Enterprise AI Skills Gap

The initiative is designed around Anthropic's view that a lack of specialized technical talent has become one of the main barriers preventing enterprises from translating AI investments into operational results. Frontier Deployed Engineers are expected to combine strong software engineering skills with an understanding of business processes, allowing them to turn potential Claude applications into functioning production systems. Anthropic said the program draws directly from its experience deploying Claude within major enterprises and working with professional services firms that help companies implement AI technologies.

Frontier Deployed Engineer Residency

The Academy's first offering is the Frontier Deployed Engineer Residency, a structured training program modeled on the practical learning approach used in medical residencies. Participants learn from experienced practitioners, work through simulated enterprise deployments, and complete assessments intended to demonstrate their ability to apply the technology in realistic business environments. The curriculum covers the deployment process from selecting appropriate use cases and navigating security reviews to implementing systems and transferring them into operational use.

From Classroom Training to Real Deployments

Participants begin with a multi-day, in-person program led by Anthropic engineers and licensed instructors before completing a graded practical assessment based on a new deployment scenario. Engineers who successfully complete the initial stage receive a Claude Resident Engineer badge and then enter a 12-week residency during which they lead a real Claude implementation within their own organizations. Anthropic engineers provide support throughout the residency, while participants also learn from other members of their cohort as they build and deploy their projects.

Selecting Engineers for the Program

Claude Frontier Academy is aimed at hands-on software engineers with strong technical foundations, experience building with large language models, and a record of helping colleagues adopt AI tools. Participating organizations nominate engineers they consider capable of leading significant internal AI projects, and each candidate is expected to arrive with a specific Claude initiative that can be developed after the initial training. Previous experience creating AI agents is not mandatory, although candidates are expected to demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities and practical experience applying AI to business challenges.

Certification and Expansion Plans

Engineers are assessed again after completing the 12-week residency, with successful participants receiving the Claude Frontier Deployed Engineer badge. Anthropic expects the first engineers to earn the credential in early 2027 as the Academy expands toward its target of training 10,000 people by the end of that year. Participation currently takes place through organizational nominations, with companies advised to contact their Anthropic account team or Partner Account Manager to determine eligibility.

Building on Anthropic's Existing Training Network

The Academy expands Anthropic's broader efforts to develop professional expertise around Claude through the Claude Partner Network and related training programs. According to the company, professionals across approximately 46,000 firms have earned more than 175,000 Claude certifications, while nearly 4,000 participants have completed Basecamp, an immersive program based on training provided to Anthropic's Applied AI teams. Claude Frontier Academy moves beyond general certification by concentrating on engineers responsible for leading complex AI implementations within their organizations.

Anthropic's $100 million investment reflects the growing focus among AI developers on helping enterprises build the internal expertise required to move artificial intelligence projects from experimentation into production. By combining intensive technical instruction with 12 weeks of real-world implementation, Claude Frontier Academy is designed to develop engineers capable of overseeing AI deployments that affect products, services, and business processes. The planned training of 10,000 Frontier Deployed Engineers by the end of 2027 represents a significant expansion of Anthropic's enterprise education strategy as companies increase their adoption of generative and agentic AI.
