Global financial platform Airwallex has closed a $320 million Series H funding round, elevating its valuation to $11 billion. This new capital, led by returning investor Addition, signals a strategic pivot towards an AI-native financial operating system. The company aims to leverage its established infrastructure to pioneer autonomous finance and agentic commerce for modern businesses.

Fueling a Strategic Pivot to AI

The funds are earmarked to accelerate the development of its next-generation financial software and expand its global footprint. Airwallex will focus on enhancing its product suite for autonomous finance while extending its regulatory reach into new markets. This investment also supports the scaling of teams dedicated to building these advanced AI-powered solutions.

Co-founder and CEO Jack Zhang described this as a pivotal moment in global finance, stating the company is building accordingly. He emphasized that the foundational licenses and settlement rails built over the past decade are perfectly suited for the emerging agentic economy. This new capital will enable Airwallex to advance its vision for intelligent financial systems.

Introducing New AI-Native Products

As part of its new direction, Airwallex unveiled T:0, an AI-native platform designed to manage a business's entire finance function. Currently in private beta, T:0 automates critical tasks like bookkeeping, forecasting, and compliance from the outset. The goal is to provide founders with CFO-grade financial management without complex system migrations.

The company also introduced Airi, a new consumer wallet built for the era of agentic commerce. Initially featuring one-click checkout, Airi is planned to evolve into a comprehensive wallet infrastructure for AI agents. This will include capabilities such as delegated payments, spending limits, and multi-currency balances on a regulated platform.

Strong Growth and Market Position

This strategic shift is supported by the company's robust financial performance and rapid growth. Airwallex recently achieved $1.3 billion in annualized revenue, a 74% increase year-over-year, demonstrating strong market demand. Its annualized transaction volume has also surged by over 120% to reach $287 billion.

The platform's value is further highlighted by deep customer engagement and product adoption. More than 90% of the company's revenue is now generated from customers utilizing multiple Airwallex products. This high level of integration indicates that businesses are increasingly relying on its comprehensive suite of financial tools.

Navigating a Competitive Landscape

Airwallex is entering a highly competitive arena, with established giants like Stripe and major card networks also vying for dominance. The race to build the foundational payment rails for AI agents is one of the most contested frontiers in fintech. This landscape requires not only innovative technology but also a significant global presence to succeed.

However, the company believes its key differentiator lies in its extensive and difficult-to-replicate regulatory infrastructure. With over 85 licenses worldwide, Airwallex has a compliance foundation crucial for powering agentic transactions at scale. Investors have noted that this real financial infrastructure provides a significant competitive advantage.

Ultimately, this $320 million funding round marks a significant milestone for Airwallex, validating its decade-long infrastructure investment. The company is making a calculated wager that the future of commerce will be autonomous and powered by AI agents. This strategic pivot positions Airwallex to evolve from a global payments network into the core financial operating system for this new economy.
