Aachen-based AI platform amber has successfully closed a €7 million Series A funding round to enhance how businesses utilize their internal knowledge. The investment was co-led by existing backer Ventech and NRW.Venture, the venture capital fund of NRW.BANK. This new capital will fuel the company's European expansion and further development of its autonomous AI capabilities for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Addressing a Core AI Challenge

Many organizations struggle with data fragmented across numerous systems, which limits the effectiveness of modern AI tools. This disorganization prevents AI from understanding crucial business context, leading to unreliable or incomplete results. Furthermore, companies face the significant risk of losing valuable institutional knowledge when experienced employees retire or depart.

At the heart of amber's solution is its proprietary AI Data Layer, which creates a unified understanding of information before applying large language models. By structuring and contextualizing data from disparate sources, the platform provides AI with the necessary framework for accurate insights. This method improves the reliability of AI-generated answers and significantly enhances processing efficiency.

A Vision for Autonomous AI

Amber's vision extends beyond conventional AI tools that simply respond to user queries. The company is developing a system that can understand organizational context, recognize user intent, and proactively execute tasks. Co-founder and CEO Philipp Reißel stated that the future belongs to systems capable of autonomously completing work.

Currently, the platform empowers employees to retrieve vital information that would otherwise be buried in files, emails, and internal drives. Instead of relying on simple keyword searches, amber's technology comprehends the context behind business information. This preserves collective expertise and accelerates processes like employee onboarding and complex workflows.

Strategic Use of New Capital

The fresh capital will be strategically allocated to accelerate amber's growth across the continent, beginning with an expansion into the Benelux region. A significant portion of the funds is also earmarked for advancing its core AI Data Layer technology. The company will also focus on creating deeper and more seamless integrations with existing enterprise business systems.

A key objective is to strengthen AI adoption among small and medium-sized enterprises, a market amber is specifically targeting. The company plans to evolve its platform from its current user-initiated workflows toward a more autonomous system. This shift will enable the AI to independently identify necessary tasks and execute them proactively to support employees.

Investor Confidence and Market Position

The funding round signals strong investor confidence in amber's unique architectural approach. Ventech highlighted the company's early identification of key AI challenges, including data ownership and reliable agent management. Representatives from NRW.BANK also praised amber's technology for making enterprise knowledge accessible and strengthening the competitiveness of SMEs.

Amber has already established a strong foothold with customers across diverse sectors, including manufacturing, engineering, and consumer goods. Its client roster features prominent companies such as Ritter Sport, Scheidt & Bachmann, and Hailo. This demonstrates the platform's proven ability to help organizations preserve institutional knowledge and unlock AI-powered productivity.

This €7 million investment marks a pivotal moment for amber as it scales its operations and refines its innovative platform. By focusing on creating a foundational data layer for AI, the company is positioned to transform how businesses access and act on their collective knowledge. Amber's journey toward enabling autonomous AI systems will be crucial for enhancing productivity and competitiveness for SMEs throughout Europe.
