Villgro Africa is inviting applications from invention-based MedTech startups across East Africa for its 24-month MedTech Innovation Program. The initiative is designed to help locally led companies strengthen product development, clinical and regulatory readiness, manufacturing capabilities, business models, and market access. The program will select six enterprises from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, and Ethiopia. Eligible applicants should already have a functional proof of concept or prototype and be progressing through validation, pre-commercial, or early-market development.

Who Can Apply?

The program is open to tech-enabled, invention-based MedTech companies that:

  • Are headquartered in, incorporated in, or primarily operating from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, or Ethiopia.
  • Have a committed East African founding team with clear technical and business leadership.
  • Have at least a functional proof of concept or prototype.
  • Are developing a differentiated medical product or technology with a clear healthcare use case.
  • Have engaged relevant users or stakeholders such as healthcare professionals, patients, facilities, payers, or partners.
  • Can clearly explain their product ownership, intellectual property, technical development status, and regulatory pathway.
  • Are willing to provide technical, clinical, regulatory, financial, and corporate information during due diligence.

Companies that are still completing incorporation may apply but must be formally registered before onboarding.
