UCEDC’s Virtual Incubator Program (VIP) is a free business accelerator designed for established business owners seeking long-term stability and growth. The program convenes a cohort of 10–15 entrepreneurs in a focused, collaborative online setting. It combines an eight-week, instructor-led training curriculum with ongoing one-on-one counseling and offers a forgivable loan for qualified participants to help advance their business objectives.
Qualifications to Apply
• Businesses must be located and perform the majority of their operations in UCEDC’s service area, which includes New Jersey, NYC, Westchester County, NY, Philadelphia, or Bucks County, PA.
• Applicants must have been in business for at least two years.
• The business must be operating profitably or at a break-even point.
• A commitment to full participation in the program is required; failure to do so will result in removal.
• Applicants must provide their most recent personal tax return and two years of business tax returns.
Program Process and Curriculum
• Week 1: Strategic Planning workshop, emphasizing the application of SWOT Analysis to review and build an effective Business Plan for profitability and sustainability.
• Week 2: Organization Structure workshop, focusing on establishing the best operational environment by considering the combination of employees, vendors, suppliers, and advisors.
• Week 3: Marketing Strategy workshop, reviewing the fundamentals of marketing strategy, the 4-Ps of marketing, marketing research, and target marketing.
• Week 4: Review & Group Counseling session, featuring examples and exercises to apply SWOT analysis, organization structure improvements, and target marketing tactics.
• Week 5: Financial Statements Analysis workshop, covering the Balance Sheet, P&L Statement, and Cash Flow Statement for analytical modeling.
• Week 6: Cash Flow and Financial Forecasting workshop, focusing on making sound sales, expense, and cash flow projections.
• Week 7: Review & Group Counseling session, with examples and exercises for analyzing financial statements and conducting financial forecasting.
• Week 8: Business Plan Pitch workshop, centered on establishing an “elevator pitch” and a business plan summary presentation.
• Week 9 and forward: Ongoing one-on-one counseling and mentoring on a monthly basis, which is a requirement of the forgivable loan. These sessions may include assistance from guest counselors or Subject Matter Experts such as Attorneys, Accountants, Insurance Agents, and Bankers where appropriate.
