The Student Venture Capital Grant (S-VCG), an initiative of Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Education and the National Skills Council, is a national program designed to support student-led innovation and entrepreneurship across Nigerian tertiary institutions. The program provides eligible student founders with equity-free funding, mentorship, validation support, incubation, and national visibility to help transform promising ventures into scalable, market-ready businesses.
S-VCG focuses on high-impact ventures in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medical Sciences (STEMM). The program uses a structured evaluation and milestone-tracking framework to support transparent selection, monitor venture progress, and enable accountable funding disbursements.

Focus Areas (STEMM)
• Science: Ventures translating scientific research into practical solutions, including biotechnology and agricultural innovation.
• Technology: Technology-driven ventures using software, hardware, artificial intelligence, and related technologies to solve real-world problems and contribute to Nigeria’s digital economy.
• Engineering: Ventures focused on designing, building, or improving machinery, sustainable infrastructure, industrial systems, and other engineering-based solutions.
• Mathematics: Ventures applying mathematical innovation, advanced analysis, financial modelling, data science, or other quantitative approaches to solve practical problems.
• Medical Sciences: Healthcare and MedTech ventures focused on improving healthcare delivery, developing medical devices, advancing health technologies, or strengthening public health outcomes.
Application Process
• Submit Your Business: Eligible students or teams submit their business information, pitch video, funding request, and other required application materials through the official S-VCG portal.
• Review and Feedback: Applications undergo multiple stages of evaluation. The program also provides structured feedback and maintains an Innovation Repository to increase the visibility of participating ventures.
• Validate and Refine: Shortlisted teams participate in a structured validation process designed to refine their solutions, strengthen their business models, and prepare them for further development.
• Receive Milestone-Based Funding: Approved ventures receive funding in tranches linked to defined milestones, with progress tracked during the program’s incubation and implementation period.
Eligibility Criteria
• Enrollment: Applicants must be currently enrolled students at a Nigerian tertiary institution, including a university, polytechnic, or college of education. Students from both public and private institutions are eligible.
• Academic Level: The lead applicant must be at least at the 300 level or its equivalent. Students below this level may participate as members of a team led by an eligible student at the 300 level or above.
• Business Registration: The venture or project must operate under a business name registered with Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
• Team Structure: Applications may be submitted by eligible individuals or teams.
• Business Plan: Applicants must provide a clear business plan containing expenditure milestones and key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Project Stage: The venture must be beyond the proof-of-concept stage and sufficiently developed to demonstrate real-world potential. Idea-only submissions are not eligible.
• Focus Area: Eligible ventures must fall within Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or Medical Sciences (STEMM).
Innovation Portfolio
S-VCG maintains a national Innovation Repository showcasing student-led ventures submitted through the program. The repository is designed to keep participating innovations visible and discoverable by peers, institutions, ecosystem partners, and potential investors, while highlighting the breadth of student entrepreneurship emerging from Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Funding and Venture Support
S-VCG provides equity-free support of up to ₦50 million to eligible student-led ventures. Beyond funding, selected participants can access structured incubation, expert mentorship, validation support, innovation tools, and connections to academic, industry, and investment networks.
The initiative is intended to help student founders move beyond early validation and develop scalable ventures capable of addressing real-world challenges.
