Seven Business Challenges for Egyptian Startups
The startup call includes seven collaboration themes developed around the business needs of participating Japanese companies. They span circular economy, manufacturing, retail, insurance, logistics, fintech, creative production, media, and intellectual property.
• Challenge 1 — Circular Economy & E-Scrap: Develop a digital traceability system supporting the collection and recycling of electronic waste between Japan and Egypt.
• Challenge 2 — Manufacturing & AI: Develop technology that enhances production-management systems and uses artificial intelligence to optimize production planning in manufacturing environments.
• Challenge 3 — Retail & Consumer Data: Develop solutions that combine digital and physical pharmacy-channel data to analyze purchasing behavior and support data-driven commercial decision-making.
• Challenge 4 — Insurance & Mobility: Develop digital distribution models for corporate motor insurance using commercial vehicle fleet networks and telematics.
• Challenge 5 — FinTech & SME Insurance: Develop embedded-insurance solutions for Egyptian small and medium-sized enterprises through integration with business and payment platforms.
• Challenge 6 — Creative Industries, AI & Anime Production: Explore the use of Egyptian technology and creative talent, supported by AI tools, for business-process outsourcing within Japanese anime-production workflows.

Startup Eligibility and Stage
The program should be classified as Stage Agnostic rather than Revenue-generating, Seed, Series A, or another specific financing stage.
The selection framework focuses on whether a startup has the technology and operational capacity required to execute a corporate PoC. ITIDA states that startups are assessed according to their alignment with the corporate challenge, technology readiness, execution capability, and market experience, including regional expansion where relevant.
This means the program is not defined by a required fundraising stage. A startup does not need to be classified as Seed, Series A, or another investment round simply to fit the program. Likewise, revenue generation is not presented as the defining stage requirement.

Program Timeline
Following the startup application period, the program is expected to proceed through startup screening, discussions with participating Japanese companies, selection of collaboration partners, and joint PoC design.
JICA indicates that startup selection and corporate discussions are scheduled for October–November 2026, followed by detailed PoC co-design between November 2026 and January 2027. The approximately six-month PoC implementation phase is expected to begin in February 2027.
Rather than functioning as a conventional accelerator tied to a particular fundraising stage, the initiative is structured around corporate-startup co-creation and Proof of Concept development. Startups with relevant, sufficiently mature technology solutions can use the program to validate their products in real business settings, establish relationships with Japanese corporations, and explore potential commercial, development, and international expansion opportunities.
