The Futurize Incubator is a five-month hybrid program designed to serve as a launchpad for early-stage health ventures across Africa. It supports founders in advancing their startups from a tested prototype to market launch, focusing on achieving traction and investor readiness. The program provides a rigorous curriculum, expert coaching, and extensive mentorship to equip the next generation of African health innovators with the tools and networks necessary for scaling their solutions.
Program Overview
• Program Dates: July 6th - November 6th, 2026
• Application Deadline: May 11th, 2026. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
• Duration: 5 months
• Format: A hybrid model combining virtual sessions with access to local hubs in Nairobi and Kigali.
• Focus: To propel promising startups tackling significant healthcare challenges across Africa through the use of technology.
Ideal Applicant Profile
• Startup Stage: Early-stage, pre-seed startups. Teams should not have received prior equity-based investment, though grants are acceptable.
• Prototype: A functioning, tested prototype that leverages AI is mandatory.
• Business Model: The solution must have a scalable, tech-centric business model with the potential to expand beyond a single country.
• Team Size: A minimum of two co-founders is mandatory, with a maximum of five on the founding team.
• Founder Commitment: Co-founders must be dedicated to investing the time and resources required for the program.
• Skillsets: Teams should have complementary skills, including at least one technical co-founder if the solution is tech-intensive. A balance of healthcare expertise, software engineering, and creative problem-solving is sought.
• Affiliation: Founders must be current students or alumni of Futurize partner universities across Sub-Saharan Africa.
• Primary Tracks: Solutions using AI and Machine Learning for the early detection of cancer, early detection of other non-communicable diseases, or improving access to healthcare.
• Additional Track: A track is also available for ideas tackling Climate Change and mitigating its impacts.
Application and Selection
• Stage 1 - Basic Info: Applicants submit a form detailing their startup’s problem, solution, and team, including a pitch deck.
• Stage 2 - Market Evaluation: Selected teams are given one week to test core business assumptions through user interviews and a rapid test.
• Stage 3 - Interview: Teams present their market validation data in a 30-minute deep-dive interview with the selection committee.
• Stage 4 - Final Selection: The top 15 teams are selected for the cohort, which kicks off on July 6th.

• Target Customer Segment & Strategy: A validated target customer segment based on discovery interviews.
• Minimum Viable Product (MVP): An MVP or prototype developed and tested with pilot partners.
• Investor Pitch Deck: A compelling pitch deck ready for pre-seed investment rounds or grant applications.
• Investor Introductions: The opportunity to pitch in person to VCs and Angel Investors at the Futurize Summit.
• Mentorship: Personalized coaching sessions with top advisors and hands-on support from tech, legal, and finance mentors.
• Workshops: World-class workshops covering crucial aspects of early-stage startup development.
• Technical Support: Assistance in building models from the program's technical partner.
• Networking: Opportunities to forge connections with fellow founders across Africa.
• Attendance: Mandatory attendance for at least two team members at all sessions is required to maximize program benefits.
