The Crucible Accelerator, a collaboration led by the Inland Empire Tech Bridge and powered by FedTech, is preparing for its Fall 2026 cohort. Scheduled to run from October through December, the eight-week program is designed to provide deep engagement with program offices, Warfare Centers, and acquisition leaders across the Naval enterprise. The accelerator culminates in a Demo Day, where participants can pitch to a curated audience of investors, prime contractors, and government stakeholders. Following the program, top-performing teams will be invited to present at the Warfighting Innovation Summit in Southern California in February 2027.


Program Highlights

Cohort Structure: The program accepts 12 companies for each Fall and Spring cohort.
Naval Enterprise Exposure: Participants gain access to program offices, Warfare Centers, and Tech Bridge directors.
Structured Feedback: Teams receive direct feedback from Department of the Navy operators and buyers.
Demo Day: A Week 8 event gives participating companies the opportunity to pitch to a select audience of investors, prime contractors, and government stakeholders.
Warfighting Innovation Summit: All teams are invited to attend the summit in February 2027, with top-performing teams given the opportunity to pitch at the event.
Investor-Readiness Track: A dedicated track led by experienced practitioners covers key topics such as due diligence, term sheets, and cap table structure.
Founder-Friendly Terms: The program takes no equity and charges no participation fees.
Time Commitment: Participants should expect to dedicate approximately five hours per week over the eight-week program.

Participant Benefits

1:1 Mentorship and Expert Access: Participants receive one-on-one mentorship from advisors with direct defense-sector experience, including veterans and executives with backgrounds in defense agencies.
Virtual Targeted Workshops: Workshops cover topics relevant to company growth, including go-to-market strategy, investor readiness, pitch coaching, and federal market navigation. The investor-readiness track features practitioners from firms such as Harpoon Ventures and Shield Capital.
Industry Network Access: Each company receives targeted institutional exposure and presents at Demo Day. Top-performing teams are also invited to pitch at the Warfighting Innovation Summit, a closed-door event attended by senior federal decision-makers.
Post-Program Funding Support: Graduates can access Crucible Catalyst, a follow-on program that provides continued funding support without taking equity.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Technology Maturity: The program targets technologies at Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) 4–6.
Company Stage: Applicants should have a developed product, evidence of market demand, and be prepared to receive direct feedback from defense buyers on acquisition pathways. The program is not intended to help companies find product-market fit.
Founder Profile: Ideal candidates are experienced founders who have previously built a company, shipped a product, or managed a sales process.
Technology Areas: The program focuses on dual-use technologies aligned with the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering’s Critical Technology Areas, including applied artificial intelligence, biomanufacturing, and contested logistics technologies.

Eligibility and Application Details

Incorporation and Citizenship: Participating startups must be incorporated and headquartered in the United States, and participating individuals must be U.S. citizens.
Participant Role: The program is specifically designed for active participation by founders and C-suite executives. Applications should be submitted by a founder or C-suite member.
Cohort Size and Selection: Each cohort consists of 12 companies. The selection process includes an application review followed by interviews with finalists.
Security Clearance: An active security clearance is not required for admission, although certain downstream engagements may require one.
Application Scope: Although the program is Navy-funded, it is open to technologies relevant to other military services or federal customers, provided there is a credible dual-use application for the Navy.

Alumni Success Stories

Hybron Technologies: Generated five Letters of Intent and raised $4 million in follow-on funding during the program. The company later closed an oversubscribed $25 million seed round, including an investment from Ultratech Capital Partners, a connection facilitated through FedTech's VentureMatch platform.
Khasm Labs: Completed a field deployment at the Joint Interagency Field Experimentation (JIFX) exercise and was selected for the Crucible Afterburner program. The company also partnered with New Use Energy (NUE) to develop a unified system addressing energy dependencies.
Battery Streak: Executed a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with NSWC Crane.
GlowSens: Executed its first pilot program with NSWC Dahlgren.


The Crucible Accelerator operates within the National Tech Bridge Network, a connected system of innovation hubs designed to strengthen collaboration among Naval laboratories, industry, academia, and other military organizations. These regional Tech Bridges serve as technology scouts and local networking hubs, creating an accessible pathway for the Department of the Navy to build partnerships and accelerate the delivery of solutions to sailors and Marines. They act as a critical link between Naval technologists and startup ecosystems across the United States and beyond, helping ensure that promising technologies are identified and considered for operational challenges.
