The Circular Economy in the Food Sector Incubator Programme 2026 is a key initiative supporting Sri Lanka's transition towards a more sustainable, inclusive, and resource-efficient economy. As part of a broader project running from 2024 to 2027, this program is backed by the European Union’s Global Gateway Strategy and co-financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It is designed to assist Sri Lankan innovators in developing and scaling solutions that address food loss, food waste, and the use of single-use plastics within the food sector by fostering circular, sustainable business models.

Program Structure and Support

• Program Duration: A six-month Circular Innovation Incubator.

• Mentorship and Training: Guidance from industry experts and participation in workshops and training sessions conducted in English.

Eligibility Criteria

• Applicant Profile: Open to individuals, teams, group entities, or registered companies in Sri Lanka.

• Focus: Solutions must be digital or tech-enabled and address food waste, food loss, or the reduction of single-use plastics in the food system.
• Principles: The proposed solution must demonstrate clear relevance to circular economy principles and show potential for scalability across the food value chain.

Ineligible Submissions

• Ideas without a functional prototype.
• Non-tech or non-innovative solutions.
• Projects that are unrelated to food systems.
• Solutions that lack a clear relevance to the circular economy.

Application Process

• Step 1: Develop a prototype that addresses food waste, food loss, or single-use plastics.
• Step 2: Ensure the solution aligns with circular economy principles.
• Step 3: Prepare a clear business model and impact strategy.
• Step 4: Submit the application to the incubator program.
• Step 5: Undergo the selection and evaluation process.
