Energie AG Oberösterreich is accepting applications for the Startup Innovation Challenge 2026, a global call for solutions in energy and AI. Winners per brief receive funding up to €50,000 to run a PoC/MVP with Energie AG, plus access to experts and data. The program features three concrete challenges: (1) Digital Customer Service World (avatars & AI), (2) Renewables SiteFinder (AI for wind/PV siting), and (3) AI-Enabled Energy Audit for SMEs.

The challenge is open worldwide—not restricted to any geography—and targets startups/established companies beyond the idea stage (typically with a team of at least three).

Application Process

  • Apply online via the program’s application portal.
  • Organizers will invite at least three startups per challenge to Pitch Day. One winner per challenge proceeds to the PoC phase.
  • PoC work is funded up to €50,000 (budget agreed per project).

Key Dates and Deadlines

  • On-time application deadline: 4 January 2026 (no time specified)
  • Converted deadline: 4 January 2026, GMT+1
  • Pitch Day: 4 March 2026

Program Structure and Experience

  • Format: Remote-first challenge with collaborative PoC work alongside Energie AG domain experts (funding, mentoring, access to data/tech).
  • Where it happens: Collaboration is primarily online; a short visit to Linz, Austria during the PoC may be beneficial—travel & accommodation can be covered by Energie AG if needed.
  • Outputs: A scoped, tangible PoC/MVP demonstrating feasibility and impact for the selected brief.

Mentorship and Community

Selected teams work closely with Energie AG challenge owners and experts, with regular check-ins and joint development to build and validate the PoC.

Funding and Post-Program Support

  • PoC funding: Up to €50,000 for the winning startup in each challenge.
  • Beyond the PoC: If both sides agree, the goal is to continue cooperation toward a longer-term partnership.

Briefs at a Glance

  • Digital Customer Service World: Design a hybrid, human-centered service concept (avatars, holograms, mixed reality) that maintains regional identity while scaling digitally. Deadline: 4 Jan 2026.
  • Renewables SiteFinder: Build an AI tool to automate “white-area” mapping and scenario analysis for wind/PV siting across jurisdictions. Deadline: 4 Jan 2026.
