Yango Ghana, in partnership with Bboxx and Kofa, has unveiled a strategic initiative designed to scale the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) among delivery couriers across the country. The collaboration represents a major step toward sustainable transportation in Ghana’s logistics sector, aiming to cut emissions, reduce costs, and enhance the livelihoods of local riders. It combines Yango’s platform reach, Bboxx’s financing model, and Kofa’s electric vehicle technology to create an ecosystem supporting clean mobility.
Pioneering a Sustainable Transport Model
At the heart of the partnership is the shared goal of replacing petrol-powered motorbikes with efficient, eco-friendly alternatives. Yango will utilize its extensive courier network to roll out the program, while Bboxx introduces a flexible PAYGO (pay-as-you-go) financing solution, making it easier for riders to own electric bikes. Kofa complements the initiative by supplying JIDI e-bikes and building a decentralized battery-swapping infrastructure across major delivery zones.
Making Green Mobility Accessible
According to Emmanuel Koduah, Country Manager for Yango Delivery Ghana, the partnership is a turning point for Ghana’s sustainability agenda. He explained that the initiative empowers couriers to earn more while minimizing environmental impact through accessible green technology. The program also includes free servicing and exclusive incentives for riders, helping boost their productivity and earnings while fostering long-term adoption of EVs.
Technology Tailored for Africa’s Roads
Kofa’s JIDI e-bikes, co-developed with TAILG, have been engineered specifically for African riders, balancing performance, safety, and affordability. The electric bikes deliver petrol-equivalent power while offering up to 30 percent lower operational costs, a significant advantage in a fuel-dependent sector. With robust design, reliable batteries, and accessible swap stations, the JIDI model addresses one of the most persistent challenges in African mobility—affordable, reliable transport suited to local infrastructure.
Financing Innovation for Inclusivity
Bboxx Ghana’s Managing Director, Leticia Teiko Insaidoo, emphasized that the initiative aligns with the company’s mission to democratize access to clean energy solutions. Through PAYGO financing, couriers can progressively own JIDI bikes without heavy upfront payments, creating an inclusive path toward electrification. Insaidoo added that the collaboration with Yango and Kofa extends Bboxx’s impact beyond home energy systems to the broader e-mobility space, helping thousands transition toward greener livelihoods.
Building an Ecosystem for Clean Energy
For Kofa, the partnership marks another milestone in its mission to make affordable energy accessible to millions across Africa. CEO Erik Nygard explained that the company is building a decentralized battery-swapping network that connects global manufacturers, local distributors, and financiers under one integrated system. By linking with Yango’s digital logistics infrastructure and Bboxx’s financing capabilities, Kofa aims to drive a scalable model for clean energy adoption in urban transport.
Transforming Ghana’s Delivery Economy
Ghana’s delivery economy has expanded rapidly in recent years, driven by the growth of e-commerce and digital logistics platforms. However, this growth has also increased fuel consumption and emissions. The Yango-Bboxx-Kofa partnership addresses these challenges head-on by introducing a cleaner, cost-efficient alternative that supports both the environment and the economic resilience of riders. Over time, the program is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions and operational costs across the sector.
The collaboration between Yango, Bboxx, and Kofa sets a precedent for how public-private partnerships can accelerate Africa’s green transition through innovation, accessibility, and inclusivity. By combining technology, financing, and operational scale, the three companies are not only transforming Ghana’s delivery landscape but also creating a blueprint for sustainable logistics across the continent. As more couriers adopt electric mobility, Ghana moves one step closer to a cleaner, more efficient future in transport.
