Australian medical robotics company Vexev has successfully raised $6 million in new capital, boosting its total funding to $19 million. This strategic investment is dedicated to accelerating the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance process for its VxWave platform. The company aims to commercialize this AI-powered robotic ultrasound system to improve access to standardized vascular imaging, a critical need in healthcare.


Addressing a Critical Healthcare Gap

Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death globally, yet access to high-quality vascular imaging is often limited by specialist availability and inconsistent image acquisition. Vexev's technology is designed to overcome this challenge by enabling non-specialist staff to perform complex scans with greater consistency. The VxWave platform combines robotics and artificial intelligence to automate ultrasound acquisition, promising to make advanced diagnostics more accessible.

Focus on Dialysis Patient Care

The company's initial application for the VxWave system targets upper-limb imaging for dialysis vascular access, a procedure vital for patients with kidney failure. The trial showed an impressive 94% scanning success rate for autonomous vascular imaging when operated by non-specialist clinical staff. This early clinical validation highlights the platform's potential to improve consistency and potentially reduce the time to diagnosis and treatment.

According to Vexev's co-founder and CEO, John Carroll, the ultimate vision extends far beyond dialysis care. The goal is to build an autonomous imaging platform that helps clinicians make faster and more informed decisions across a spectrum of vascular diseases. Future applications are planned for conditions like cardiovascular and peripheral artery disease, supported by ongoing clinical evidence development.

Strong Investor Backing and Future Plans

The $6 million round attracted both existing investors, such as Blackbird Ventures and Neotribe Ventures, and new participants including TreeArc Investment Group and TEN13. This capital will be instrumental in supporting regulatory activities, scaling up manufacturing capabilities, and executing the U.S. commercialization strategy. The broad investor support signals strong confidence in Vexev's mission to innovate vascular imaging and its potential market impact.
