Danish AI infrastructure startup Velatir has successfully secured €5 million in a seed funding round to advance its enterprise AI control platform. Co-led by Spintop Ventures and Ugly Duckling Ventures, the investment will fuel the company's rapid expansion across Europe. This funding follows a period of remarkable growth, with Velatir acquiring 80 customers in just seven months.

Addressing the Complexity of Enterprise AI

CEO Michael Blicher Sørensen notes that while AI was expected to simplify operations, it has introduced significant complexity for businesses. The proliferation of AI tools has created a fragmented landscape, making it difficult for companies to maintain oversight. Velatir aims to restore clarity and control, allowing organizations to innovate safely and efficiently.

The company offers a foundational control layer that integrates with existing AI tools used by enterprises. This platform enables real-time monitoring of data flow, user activity, and potential risks across the entire organization. By providing unified oversight, Velatir helps businesses enforce compliance and prevent data breaches before they occur.

Rapid Growth and Market Traction

Velatir's market entry has been exceptionally strong, growing from zero customers in January to 80 by August. This rapid adoption spans six European countries and diverse sectors including finance, law, and government. The company is now approaching an impressive $1 million in annual recurring revenue, demonstrating significant commercial traction.

To support this growth, the team has expanded to 30 employees and aims to nearly double by the end of the year. Velatir primarily targets mid-market companies, offering a scalable solution for clients ranging from five to 20,000 employees. This focus makes advanced AI governance accessible to a broader segment of the market than traditional enterprise offerings.

A Strategic Focus on European Sovereignty

A core tenet of Velatir's strategy is its exclusive use of European-owned and hosted infrastructure. Co-founder Christian Møller emphasized this was a deliberate choice to ensure data sovereignty and avoid reliance on American hyperscalers. This commitment addresses growing concerns around cross-border data transfers and regulatory compliance under frameworks like the AI Act.

While the platform's primary value lies in its functionality, its sovereign status provides a distinct competitive edge. This approach significantly shortens sales cycles, as it preemptively resolves procurement and sourcing hurdles for European clients. It positions Velatir as a trusted partner for organizations prioritizing data security and regulatory alignment.

Investor Confidence and Future Expansion

The funding round was co-led by Spintop Ventures and Ugly Duckling Ventures, with participation from Norrsken Evolve and notable angel investors. Investor confidence was underscored by a due diligence process that concluded in just two weeks. This swift backing reflects the strength of the founding team and the urgent market need for their solution.

The new capital is earmarked for accelerating European expansion and strategic hiring. Velatir plans to open a Stockholm office in October, with several more European locations to follow in the next year. This expansion will focus on high-demand markets, including France, the Netherlands, and the broader Nordic region.

With its new €5 million in funding, Velatir is strongly positioned to address the critical need for AI governance in the enterprise sector. The company's rapid customer acquisition, experienced leadership, and strategic focus on European data sovereignty create a powerful foundation for growth. As businesses continue to grapple with AI complexity, Velatir's control layer offers a timely and essential solution.
