VB Spine has announced a major strategic transaction, positioning itself as a stronger innovator in the spinal care market. The company has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire exclusive rights to the xvision Spine System® from Augmedics. This transaction significantly enhances VB Spine’s portfolio with advanced augmented reality navigation technology.
Pioneering Augmented Reality in Surgery
VB Spine is set to integrate the Augmedics xvision Spine System®, an FDA-cleared augmented reality navigation platform designed to enhance surgical visualization and accuracy. The system enables surgeons to view 3D anatomical data through a heads-up display directly at the operative site, improving workflow efficiency while reducing radiation exposure.
This agreement is a foundational component of VB Spine’s broader enhanced visualization strategy, building on its recent acquisition of the SpineHawk™ intraoperative spinal visualization platform. Marc Viscogliosi, co-CEO of VB Spine, stated that the company’s scale and implant integration capabilities can help unlock the full potential of AR navigation in spine procedures.
With nearly 13,000 patients treated using the xvision system, the platform brings a meaningful clinical track record. Paul Ziegler, CEO of Augmedics, said the agreement enables his company to focus on expanding its augmented reality technology into additional surgical indications.
A Strategic Move to Scale AR Navigation
The agreement underscores VB Spine’s intent to move beyond standalone implants and build a more integrated surgical technology platform. By securing exclusive rights to xvision, the company strengthens its position in enhanced visualization, aligning navigation capabilities more closely with its implant portfolio. This integration strategy is designed to improve procedural confidence for surgeons while differentiating VB Spine in an increasingly competitive spine technology market.
Strengthening Enhanced Visualization Capabilities
The transaction reflects a focused growth strategy centered on advanced surgical navigation and visualization. By incorporating xvision into its portfolio, VB Spine aims to provide more differentiated technology solutions that support precision, safety, and efficiency in spine surgery.
The combination of the xvision and SpineHawk platforms establishes a strengthened enhanced visualization suite for spine procedures. Upon closing, subject to customary approvals and conditions, the deal is expected to further position VB Spine as a leader in next-generation spine care technology.
