Telia Company has announced a significant strategic move to accelerate its digital transformation by acquiring the Swedish mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), Telness. Following the acquisition, Telia will deploy the innovative Seamless OS platform across its Nordic and Baltic markets. This integration is poised to enhance Telia's operational agility and redefine its customer service capabilities.
A Strategic Acquisition for Digital Advancement
The acquisition, completed in December 2023, brings Telness into the Telia family, where it will continue to operate under its own brand within Telia's Swedish B2B division. Telness has built a strong reputation among small businesses and startups with its digital-first model. This approach is powered by the very technology Telia now plans to adopt on a much larger scale.
Seamless OS, the flagship product of Telness Tech, is a modern, cloud-native operating system designed for telecommunications providers. The API-driven platform provides a comprehensive suite of tools for customer management, billing, and network integration. Its purpose is to enable operators to rapidly launch and manage new services with greater efficiency and flexibility.
Enhancing Operational Agility and Customer Experience
By leveraging Seamless OS, Telia aims to streamline its internal operations and significantly reduce the time-to-market for new products and services. This technological upgrade is central to the company's strategy to gain a competitive edge in a rapidly evolving industry. The ultimate goal is to deliver a superior and more responsive experience for all its customers.
Allison Kirkby, President and CEO of Telia Company, emphasized the importance of this initiative for the company's future. She stated that the deployment underscores a deep commitment to innovation and the ambition to lead the digital transformation of the telecom sector. The platform will enable Telia to become more agile, efficient, and fundamentally customer-centric in its offerings.
A Milestone for Telness Tech
For Telness Tech, the independent technology company behind Seamless OS, this agreement marks a major milestone. Telia will be the first Mobile Network Operator (MNO) to deploy the platform, validating its power and scalability beyond the MVNO space. The technology was initially developed and proven within Telness, which became one of Europe's most digitally advanced operators.
Martina Klingvall, Founder and CEO of Telness Tech, called the deal a "defining moment" for the company. She highlighted that Telness will retain its strong digital experience while benefiting from the significant scaling and marketing capabilities that Telia provides. This partnership ensures the platform's continued evolution while serving a much broader customer base under the Telia umbrella.
The Path Forward
The deployment of Seamless OS will be phased, beginning in Sweden before being rolled out to Telia's other Nordic and Baltic markets. The transaction is currently awaiting customary approval from the Swedish Inspectorate of Strategic Products (ISP) to be finalized. This structured approach will ensure a smooth integration of the new operating system across the company's extensive network.
As part of the transaction, Telia has also acquired the Telness brand, which necessitates a change for the technology provider. Telness Tech will initiate a rebranding process to establish a new company name and visual identity. It will continue to operate as an independent entity, serving its growing list of over 24 operators globally.
This acquisition and technology deployment represents a pivotal step in Telia's journey toward becoming a more agile and digitally-native operator. The integration of Seamless OS is set to unlock new levels of operational efficiency and enhance customer value across its markets. For Telness Tech, it marks a significant commercial validation that will fuel its continued growth as an independent technology leader.
