TechBBQ, a leading Danish non-profit conference organizer, has secured a significant DKK 4 million grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation. This funding is designated to establish a permanent bridge connecting the Nordic innovation ecosystem with burgeoning tech hubs in Africa and India. The initiative will be anchored by the creation of dedicated Nordic-Africa and Nordic-India Innovation Summits at its annual event.

Fostering Global Innovation Partnerships

The three-year grant will transform pilot projects into a sustainable platform for cross-continental collaboration. Its primary objective is to facilitate investment, foster commercial partnerships, and accelerate technology sharing between the regions. This structured approach aims to create tangible opportunities for startups, investors, and corporations across the participating ecosystems.

According to TechBBQ’s CEO, Avnit Singh, this backing will help connect the ecosystems in a more structured and sustainable way, unlocking immense untapped potential. The program, scheduled to run from August 2026 through December 2028, will operate alongside TechBBQ's flagship conference in Copenhagen. This formalizes the organization's commitment to building lasting international innovation networks.

Strategic Focus on High-Growth Sectors

The initiative will concentrate on sectors prioritized by the Novo Nordisk Foundation, ensuring a focused impact. Key areas include life sciences, deeptech, artificial intelligence, and climate and agricultural technology. This strategic alignment directs resources toward solving critical global challenges through collaborative innovation.

A core component of the grant is an equitable-access requirement from the foundation. This mandate ensures that knowledge generated through the program is shared openly whenever possible. Furthermore, resulting innovations must be made available at affordable prices in low- and middle-income countries.

Tapping into Dynamic Ecosystems

This partnership taps into the immense potential of Africa and India, which are projected to represent 40% of the global workforce by 2050. Africa boasts the world's youngest workforce, while India is experiencing rapid technological and economic growth. Establishing strong ties now is a strategic move to engage with these future global powerhouses.

The Nordic region presents a powerful partner, having attracted $7.7 billion in venture capital in 2025 and being home to over 100 unicorns. This robust ecosystem provides African and Indian startups with access to significant capital, advanced research institutions, and extensive corporate networks. The collaboration offers a clear pathway for startups from these regions to scale within the European market.

This DKK 4 million grant marks a pivotal moment for international tech collaboration, moving beyond temporary projects to build permanent infrastructure. By connecting the mature Nordic ecosystem with the dynamic markets of Africa and India, the initiative promises to accelerate innovation and create shared value. TechBBQ is now firmly positioned as a central hub for fostering global partnerships that address pressing worldwide needs.
