The Technology and Growth (TAG) Alliance recently welcomed major organizations like Babcock and UKRI, bringing its membership to nineteen. This initiative aims to translate the nation's significant investment in defence innovation into tangible economic growth and new ventures for civilian markets.

Less than a year since its inception, the Alliance is already demonstrating concrete results with several new spin-out companies. Notable examples include BAE Systems' Rho-C, which applies advanced ultrasound technology to industrial settings, and GALLOS's StirlingX intelligence platform. With at least three more spin-outs anticipated by the end of the year, the Alliance's momentum is clear.

The Alliance's growing influence is marked by the recent addition of Babcock, Frazer-Nash Consultancy, and UKRI to its ranks. This expansion to nineteen members strengthens the collaborative ecosystem, bringing diverse expertise and resources to the table. Hetti Barkworth-Nanton, Chair of The TAG Alliance, noted that the UK produces world-class defence innovation but must improve its commercialization. Key industry partners have voiced strong support for the initiative's collaborative framework. Robert Merryweather of BAE Systems highlighted how the Alliance provides momentum for driving value from defence investment through dual-use exploitation. Similarly, Phil Siveter of Thales in the UK affirmed that the partnership turns innovation into new applications and strengthens sovereign capability.

The broader business community also recognizes the Alliance's potential economic impact. Andrew Haldane of the British Chambers of Commerce described it as a welcome coalition to remedy the historical lag in commercializing defence technologies. He noted that at a time of subdued growth, its mission to cross-pollinate innovation is exceptionally well-timed and crucial for the UK.
