Seville-based pension tech startup Arca Digital has secured €1 million in seed funding to revolutionize retirement savings for Spanish workers. The round was co-led by Spanish fund DraperB1 and Berlin-based Robin Capital, signaling strong investor confidence in the company's mission. Arca Digital aims to dismantle the barriers that have historically prevented small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from offering corporate pension plans.
Tackling Spain's Pension Accessibility Problem
In Spain, over three million workers benefit from corporate pension plans, but the vast majority are employed by large corporations. This leaves millions of SME employees without access due to fragmented administration, manual processes, and prohibitive operational costs. Arca Digital was founded to address this systemic inequality by providing a modern, scalable solution for this underserved market segment.
A Modern Infrastructure Built on APIs
Arca Digital operates as an API-first infrastructure layer that connects pension fund managers, employers, and their employees. The platform automates core operations, including enrollment, contributions, withdrawals, and transfers, which have historically made these plans too burdensome for smaller companies. This model allows HR and payroll software providers to embed pension products directly into their existing workflows, creating a seamless experience.
Unlocking Value for the Entire Ecosystem
The startup's solution is designed to benefit all stakeholders within the pension value chain. For asset managers, it opens a new distribution channel to the SME market without incurring additional operational complexity. For employers, it transforms a complex administrative chore into a streamlined benefit, while employees gain a single, high-tech platform to manage their savings.
Backed by Strategic European Investors
The investment round was anchored by DraperB1, part of the Draper Venture Network, and Robin Capital, which has a history of backing pension tech innovators in Germany. Jon Etxeberría of DraperB1 cited the team's early traction, while Robin Haak of Robin Capital noted that pension infrastructure has remained stagnant for decades. Additional participation came from Newschool.vc and a group of experienced fintech angels, reinforcing the venture's credibility.
A Clear Roadmap for Growth and Expansion
With the new capital, Arca Digital plans to consolidate its position in Spain before expanding its innovative model to other Southern European markets. The leadership team, which includes CEO Sergio Rodrigues Valcarce, aims to build the go-to ecosystem for empowering workforces with robust retirement tools. This phased approach is designed to address similar structural gaps in retirement savings coverage across the region.
This €1 million seed funding is a pivotal step for Arca Digital as it seeks to modernize a critical component of Spain's financial landscape. By focusing on the underserved SME sector, the company is not only addressing a significant market need but also promoting greater financial security. The success of this model could pave the way for broader innovation in pension systems throughout Europe.
