Agentic AI startup Sol has emerged from stealth mode with $4 million in seed funding from General Catalyst, Nexus Venture Partners, Z47's DeVC, Peercheque, and Cred founder Kunal Shah. The company was founded by former Cred executives Anish Karan, Ranjith Nair, and Prateek Srivastava with a mission to reduce repetitive email work. Its proactive AI assistant identifies commitments made in emails and begins fulfilling them automatically instead of waiting for a user prompt.

Building a Proactive AI Assistant

Sol scans Gmail for commitments such as sending a deck or scheduling time and gathers the context needed to complete them. It can handle research, create documents and presentations, coordinate meetings, and draft replies assembled from scattered email threads. The user retains final approval before anything is sent, scheduled, or shared.

Once connected to Google Workspace, Sol builds a contextual understanding of the user, including role, key contacts, companies, and communication style. It operates with limited intervention and uses a library of more than 100 specialist skills that improve with user feedback. The system is model-agnostic, selecting different AI models based on each task, with OpenAI models currently running under the hood.

Target Users and Competitive Positioning

The company is initially targeting people whose work involves a high volume of commitments and where missing one is costly, including founders, executives, and leadership teams. It also focuses on professionals in sales, recruiting, consulting, and agencies. Karan said the primary competition is not other AI assistants but the manual workflows users maintain around existing AI tools.

The startup follows a prosumer-first go-to-market strategy through a waitlist, with an enterprise sales motion planned once adoption grows inside organisations. Integrations begin with Google Workspace, covering Gmail, Docs, and Slides, while Outlook is open to a small group of testers. Karan argued that reliability and a simple interface are the key barriers any challenger must cross.

Security and Compliance

Sol cannot send an email, schedule a meeting, or share any output without explicit user approval, and permissions can be revoked at any time. The company has completed the CASA cloud security assessment and is SOC 2 Type 1 certified, with plans to obtain SOC 2 Type 2 certification in the coming months. These certifications are meant to reassure users that data security and privacy controls are independently audited.

Funding and Commercial Strategy

The startup is pre-revenue with no fixed pricing tiers, but it expects a usage-based or outcome-based model with a fixed component and pricing in US dollars. The $4 million seed round will primarily support research and development, including AI processing and computing costs, hiring, customer engagement across geographies, and some go-to-market and scaling activities. Most near-term hiring will take place in the United States to stay close to customers.

Sol's emergence marks a shift from AI that drafts responses to AI that acts on commitments with final human approval. With fresh capital, a growing skills library, and early security certifications, the startup is positioning itself as a proactive layer for email-heavy professionals. Whether proactive assistants become the default mode for work email or are absorbed into existing platforms remains to be seen.
