Rundoo, a technology firm providing AI-powered software to independent retailers, has successfully closed a $30 million Series B funding round. Led by Battery Ventures with participation from existing investors Bessemer Venture Partners and CRV, the new capital brings the company's total funding to $48 million. This investment will fuel its mission to modernize local hardware and supply stores.

Empowering Independent Retailers

Independent supply stores have long competed with big-box retailers that possess vast technological resources. Rundoo addresses this disparity by offering a platform that gives smaller operators access to sophisticated software and AI capabilities. The goal is to empower local businesses with tools previously exclusive to large corporate chains, helping them compete more effectively.

Founded in 2021 by Stanford alumni Nick Hershey and Andrew Beckman, the company now serves over 500 stores across North America and the Caribbean. The fresh capital will be used to grow its engineering team in Redwood City and its go-to-market operations in Chicago. This expansion is set to accelerate the adoption of its innovative retail technology.

An AI-Powered Operational Hub

The Rundoo platform acts as a comprehensive system of record, integrating point-of-sale, e-commerce, customer management, and accounting. This unified approach eliminates the need for multiple disconnected software solutions, streamlining daily operations for store owners. Centralizing data provides a holistic view of the business, enabling better and faster decision-making for independent operators.

At the platform's core is Dooey, Rundoo's proprietary AI agent designed to act as a business analyst. For example, a garden center can use Dooey to generate a purchase order by analyzing historical sales, weather forecasts, and local bids. The agent also identifies potential promotions and assists in marketing them directly to the right customers.

Dooey also provides daily operational insights through plain-language summaries for store owners. These reports cover key metrics like top-selling products, new customer acquisitions, and unusual returns. This analysis helps retailers quickly identify trends and address issues such as items being sold below their target margins, improving profitability.

Driving Measurable Growth and Industry Integration

Adopting Rundoo's technology has yielded significant financial gains for its clients. The company reports that customers have seen reductions of over 25% in receivables and gross-margin improvements of one to two percent. These metrics underscore the platform's ability to deliver measurable value and a strong return on investment for independent retailers.

To enhance its value, Rundoo has established key integrations with industry-specific systems. A notable example is its partnership with Benjamin Moore, connecting directly to the paint manufacturer's tint software. This allows independent dealers to seamlessly manage customer color information, improve service accuracy, and build stronger customer loyalty through better service.

Investor Confidence and Market Opportunity

Investor confidence is high, with Battery Ventures general partner Michael Brown joining Rundoo's board of directors. Brown compared Rundoo's potential to his firm's previous investment in ServiceTitan, a successful software provider for the trades. He noted that independent supply stores are a massive retail category still reliant on decades-old and often inefficient systems.

According to Brown, the software used by these stores is outdated, not the owners themselves. He believes Rundoo is positioned to close this technology gap, much like ServiceTitan did for its industry. The strong loyalty from Rundoo's current clients suggests the company is on track to become an essential operating system for this underserved market.

This $30 million investment marks a significant milestone for Rundoo, enabling it to enhance its AI capabilities and expand its market presence. By equipping independent retailers with powerful analytical tools, the company is helping to secure the future of local commerce. The funding will accelerate Rundoo's mission to empower these essential community businesses against larger competitors.
