Quantum computing firm PsiQuantum has announced a significant leadership transition, appointing industry veteran Victor Peng as its Interim Chief Executive Officer. This move enables co-founder Jeremy O’Brien to assume the new role of Executive Chairman, focusing on long-term strategy. The change signals the company's strategic shift from foundational research and development to large-scale execution and deployment.

A Strategic Leadership Transition

As Executive Chairman, Jeremy O’Brien will now lead the Board of Directors and continue to shape PsiQuantum’s overarching vision. He will focus on guiding the company's strategy and nurturing key partnerships to fulfill the mission he helped establish. This transition allows him to concentrate on high-level direction while the company enters a new operational phase.

In his new capacity, Victor Peng will oversee the company's day-to-day operations and drive its business, financial, and operational strategies. His primary mandate is to accelerate the deployment of PsiQuantum's utility-scale quantum computing systems in Australia and Chicago. Peng's leadership is expected to translate the company's technological breakthroughs into tangible, deployed systems.

An Industry Veteran Takes the Helm

Victor Peng brings over four decades of experience from the high-performance computing sector to his new role at PsiQuantum. He most recently served as President at AMD and was previously the CEO of Xilinx, where he led its transformation. His track record includes guiding Xilinx through its landmark $49 billion acquisition by AMD in 2022.

At AMD, Peng was instrumental in shaping the company's platform strategy, particularly for addressing emerging artificial intelligence workloads. His deep expertise spans CPUs, GPUs, and system-level architectures, providing him with a comprehensive understanding of complex computing ecosystems. This background is perfectly suited for integrating PsiQuantum's advanced hardware and software platforms.

A Pivotal Moment for PsiQuantum

This leadership change comes as PsiQuantum pivots towards the large-scale deployment of its fault-tolerant quantum computers. The company has already broken ground on the world's first utility-scale quantum computing sites in Brisbane, Australia, and Chicago, Illinois. Peng’s appointment is timed to steer the complex execution required to bring these ambitious projects to fruition.

The transition builds on a decisive year for the company, which included raising over $1 billion in a Series E funding round. PsiQuantum also unveiled its Omega silicon photonic chipset and announced a strategic partnership with NVIDIA for AI supercomputing. These milestones have established a solid foundation for the company's next phase of accelerated growth and execution.

The appointment of Victor Peng as Interim CEO marks a crucial inflection point for PsiQuantum as it moves to commercialize its technology. By pairing Peng’s proven execution capabilities with Jeremy O’Brien’s strategic vision, the company is reinforcing its leadership structure. This strategic maneuver positions PsiQuantum to deliver on its mission of building the world’s first useful, utility-scale quantum computers.
