Principia, a company specializing in financial and operational solutions for educational institutions, has appointed Mateus Nobre as its new Chief Technology Officer. Nobre brings extensive experience from his time at three Brazilian unicorns, including Latin America's first AI unicorn, Enter. His appointment is set to accelerate Principia's mission to become a leading AI-driven operating system for the education sector.

A Strategic Hire with Unicorn Experience

Nobre's professional background includes significant roles at high-growth technology firms like Wildlife Studios and Stone. Most notably, he served as a founding engineer at Enter, the first artificial intelligence unicorn in Latin America. This experience provides him with unique insights into scaling innovative technology platforms and building robust engineering teams from the ground up.

A graduate of the prestigious Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica (ITA) in Computer Engineering, Nobre also holds a minor in data science. During his master's studies, he developed a sophisticated AI system capable of interpreting legal texts, which successfully passed the Brazilian Bar Exam. This achievement underscores his deep expertise in applying advanced AI techniques like retrieval augmented generation to complex, real-world problems.

Advancing an AI-Powered Vision for Education

In a statement, Nobre articulated a forward-thinking vision for artificial intelligence that goes beyond simple enhancements. He emphasized that the true transformation involves redesigning a company's core around AI, creating systems that learn and improve autonomously. This philosophy aligns perfectly with the foundational strategy being implemented at Principia to revolutionize educational operations.

Principia offers an integrated platform that combines AI agents, financial solutions, and management software for schools and universities. The company initially focused on solving critical challenges such as ensuring cash flow predictability and reducing student dropout rates. It is now expanding its services to become a comprehensive AI operating system for the Latin American education market.

Rapid Growth and Future Ambitions

The company has demonstrated remarkable growth, achieving US$30 million in annual recurring revenue in less than three years. Its platform currently serves over 1,300 institutions and supports more than 800,000 students across the region. These figures highlight the significant market demand for its innovative solutions and its rapid expansion in the edtech space.

Founded in 2022 by Newton Maia, an engineer from ITA with a Harvard MBA, Principia is backed by notable investors like Valor Capital. Maia previously led education investments at Advent and held key roles at Kroton, bringing deep industry experience to the venture. This strong leadership and financial backing position the company for continued success and innovation in the sector.

The appointment of Mateus Nobre as CTO marks a pivotal moment for Principia as it solidifies its technology leadership. His unique blend of unicorn-scaling experience and advanced AI expertise is poised to drive the company's ambitious product roadmap forward. This strategic hire reinforces Principia's commitment to transforming the educational landscape in Latin America through intelligent, autonomous systems.
