Plinq, a Brazilian startup dedicated to enhancing women's safety, has successfully closed its first investment round, securing R$1.3 million. The seed funding was led by Spectra Investments and will fuel the company's mission to provide women with access to the criminal backgrounds of potential romantic partners. This capital injection marks a significant milestone for the tech firm as it prepares to launch its flagship mobile application.

A Mission Rooted in Prevention

The company was founded in mid-2025 by CEO Sabrine Matos, who was moved to action by a tragic femicide case. The perpetrator had a history of at least 14 domestic violence processes, a fact unknown to the victim during their relationship. This highlighted a critical gap in accessible public information, inspiring Matos to create a platform that consolidates judicial records for easy review.

The funding announcement was strategically timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of Brazil's landmark Maria da Penha Law against domestic violence. Plinq's own data underscores the ongoing relevance of its service, with 10% of its risk alerts pertaining to domestic violence records. These findings include hundreds of mentions of protective orders and direct references to violence against women, reinforcing the platform's preventative role.

Strategic Shift and Product Evolution

The new capital is earmarked for the launch of a dedicated mobile app in early September 2026 and for expanding the current ten-person team. This launch signifies a major product evolution and a shift in the company's business model from one-off web searches to a monthly subscription service. To ensure user safety, the application will be exclusive to women and will employ facial recognition technology for verification.

With the app, users can simply provide a name and phone number to generate a comprehensive report compiled from public databases. Plinq has set an ambitious goal of reaching one million active users within the first six months, a target supported by its impressive early traction. The initial web platform attracted over 60,000 users and processed nearly 85,000 searches in its first year of operation.

Future Growth and Expansion

Looking ahead to 2027, Plinq plans to introduce new features aimed at building a supportive community on its platform. One key development will be a function allowing users to alert other women nearby if they feel at risk during a date. The company also intends to launch an experiences section, connecting users with female-focused activities and businesses in a model similar to Airbnb Experiences.

Beyond user subscriptions, the startup is diversifying its revenue streams through advertising from brands with a female audience. Plinq is also exploring contracts with state governments to provide its technology for broader violence prevention initiatives. International expansion is also on the horizon, with an initial focus on serving Brazilian women living abroad before entering new markets.

Plinq's successful seed round represents a crucial step forward in its mission to leverage technology for the protection of women. The investment from Spectra Investments and angel investors validates the urgent need for accessible safety tools in today's dating landscape. As the company prepares to launch its app and expand its services, it is well-positioned to make a lasting social impact in Brazil and beyond.
