Pilot Fiber Completes Acquisition of Extenet Enterprise Fiber Business

Pilot Fiber has completed its acquisition of Extenet Systems’ enterprise fiber business, expanding the New York-based connectivity provider’s owned network into New Jersey and strengthening its presence across the broader metropolitan area. The transaction became effective on August 15, 2026, with the acquired infrastructure, including assets previously associated with Hudson Fiber Network and Axiom Fiber Network, now operating under Pilot’s ownership. The deal adds network capacity, new customers, and additional data center connectivity as Pilot continues to expand its enterprise communications footprint.

Expanding the Regional Fiber Network

The acquisition extends Pilot’s infrastructure beyond its existing New York City operations and gives the company a larger physical presence in neighboring New Jersey. More than 20 additional data centers will be incorporated into Pilot’s network, including facilities that provide direct connectivity to major financial exchanges such as NASDAQ and the New York Stock Exchange. The expanded footprint is expected to strengthen Pilot’s ability to serve customers requiring high-capacity and low-latency connectivity across financial services, telecommunications, healthcare, media, and higher education.

Pilot will also take on approximately 200 enterprise, carrier, and institutional customers previously served through Extenet’s enterprise fiber operations. The company said existing customers will continue receiving their current services without interruption as the network transitions to Pilot’s ownership. Integrating these customers provides Pilot with a broader commercial base while increasing the utilization and reach of its owned infrastructure.

Pilot Targets Further Infrastructure Investment

Pilot CEO Joseph Fasone said the completion of the transaction marks an important step in the company’s growth strategy and creates opportunities to deliver additional value across the combined customer base. With the acquisition now finalized, Pilot plans to invest in the newly acquired infrastructure, particularly its expanded New Jersey footprint, while maintaining service standards for existing and incoming customers. The company is positioning network ownership and operational control as central elements of its ability to compete in the enterprise connectivity market.

Pilot currently operates more than 300 miles of fiber infrastructure across the New York City area and serves more than 3,700 businesses in over 1,000 buildings. Its service portfolio includes dedicated internet access, Ethernet transport, dark fiber, wavelength services, and IP transit, allowing businesses and carriers to access a range of network solutions through a single provider. By owning and operating its infrastructure directly, Pilot says it can provide faster installations, greater visibility into network performance, and more direct customer support.

Extenet Assets Strengthen Pilot’s Offering

Extenet Systems has built and operated communications infrastructure serving enterprises, carriers, and other organizations requiring high-performance connectivity. The enterprise assets acquired by Pilot include infrastructure connected to the former Hudson Fiber Network and Axiom Fiber Network businesses, which developed fiber networks serving customers across the New York metropolitan region. Bringing these assets under Pilot’s ownership gives the company additional routes, facilities, and customer relationships that complement its existing network.

The acquisition also increases Pilot’s exposure to sectors where connectivity reliability and latency are particularly important, including financial services and telecommunications. Direct links to additional data centers and financial exchanges may enhance the company’s ability to support organizations with demanding data transmission requirements. At the same time, the enlarged network gives Pilot greater geographic flexibility when designing connectivity solutions for customers operating across both New York and New Jersey.

Pilot Fiber’s completed acquisition of Extenet Systems’ enterprise fiber business represents a significant expansion of its regional infrastructure and customer footprint. By combining Extenet’s fiber assets, data center connections, and enterprise relationships with its existing network, Pilot is seeking to build a more comprehensive connectivity platform across the New York metropolitan market. The company’s next phase will focus on integrating the acquired operations, investing in its expanded infrastructure, and using the larger network to support continued growth among enterprise and carrier customers.
