Swedish photonics innovator Solinide Photonics has successfully closed a €4 million seed funding round aimed at accelerating the commercialization of its groundbreaking optical interconnect technology. As a spin-out from Chalmers University of Technology, the company is tackling the escalating data transfer and energy consumption challenges plaguing modern AI data centers. This significant investment, led by PSV Hafnium, underscores strong market confidence in Solinide's vision for more efficient computing infrastructure.


The Growing Challenge in AI Infrastructure

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence is placing unprecedented strain on the world's data center hardware, creating a critical performance bottleneck. The primary challenge is no longer confined to increasing raw computing power but extends to moving massive datasets efficiently between processors and servers. Solinide's Photonic Chip Solution

Solinide confronts this industry-wide problem with its patented microcomb technology, which consolidates the function of multiple lasers onto a single, compact photonic chip. This innovative device generates dozens of precise light wavelengths simultaneously, dramatically increasing the data-carrying capacity of a single optical fiber. By replacing bulky racks of individual lasers, the technology significantly reduces power usage, physical footprint, and overall system complexity in high-performance computing environments.

The €4 million in new capital was secured from a distinguished consortium of deeptech investors, highlighting the market's recognition of Solinide's disruptive potential. The round was led by PSV Hafnium and saw participation from new investors Turbine Capital, Norrsken Evolve, and the Almi Greentech Fund. Existing backers, including Chalmers Ventures and Navigare Ventures, also reaffirmed their strong support by contributing to this pivotal funding round.

This infusion of capital is instrumental for transitioning Solinide's technology from a proven, rack-mounted prototype to a commercially available product. The funds are specifically allocated for expanding the company's expert engineering and commercial teams, as well as strengthening its in-house prototyping capabilities. A key priority is preparing the technology for scalable manufacturing in Europe and deepening collaborations with strategic industry partners for market deployment.
