OysterLab, a South Korea-based company, has officially launched Oooster, a global online marketplace where illustrators and clients can meet across national borders. The service focuses on commission-based work, in which a client requests custom artwork directly from a creator. It aims to simplify the language, payment, and communication barriers that have long complicated international illustration transactions.

A Five-Language Foundation

Oooster was designed from the outset for global use, offering user interfaces in Korean, English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. The platform automatically translates all text content inside the service and supports real-time translation for project conversations. This infrastructure is intended to help both clients and creators communicate clearly without switching between external translation tools.

Addressing Fragmented Commission Workflows

Demand for custom illustration has grown with the rise of virtual creators, personal characters, and fandom-based content. Yet many cross-border deals still depend on social media, private messages, and separate translation or payment services. Those fragmented workflows make it difficult to convey briefs, manage revision scopes, and settle payments accurately, which discourages participation on both sides.

Integrated Payments and Project Management

The platform includes overseas settlement features that allow international artists to trade directly and receive their earnings within the service. This removes the need to route transactions through separate payment tools or informal arrangements. Oooster covers the full project cycle from artwork discovery and creative requests to collaboration, delivery, and reviews.

Leadership Experience in Global Illustration

OysterLab CEO Shim Hyung-chul previously operated Rainbow Dot, an illustration production intermediary that connected overseas game companies with domestic illustrators. That venture gave the team direct experience in translation, contracts, scheduling, and delivery for cross-border illustration projects. OysterLab now plans to apply this operational knowledge and its existing artist network to expand Oooster's domestic and international user base.

From Production Intermediary to Marketplace Operator

Before launching Oooster, OysterLab's leadership operated a global illustration production intermediary service that connected overseas game companies with Korean illustrators. The team was responsible for translation, contracts, scheduling, and delivery across international projects. The company now uses that hands-on background to inform the marketplace's structure and to attract both artists and clients.

AI Matching as a Future Priority

Oooster also plans to strengthen condition-based AI matching so users can find suitable artists or clients regardless of country and language. The company expects this feature to make discovery more efficient as the marketplace grows. Future development is focused on reducing the time and effort required to identify the right creative partner for a project.

A Full Cycle for Creative Work

Oooster's infrastructure is designed to connect several stages that are often handled separately in global commissions. Users can move from discovering artwork and submitting creative requests to collaborating on projects, translating conversations, processing payments, and completing delivery. The platform also supports reviews, which can help build trust and inform future matches.

Launch Promotion and How to Participate

To celebrate the official launch, Oooster is holding a payback event through October 31. Users can visit the Oooster website at ooo.st to review the full benefits and participation methods. The promotion is part of the company's early effort to attract both creators and clients to the new marketplace.

Oooster enters the market with a clear goal of making illustration commissions work across languages, currencies, and creative cultures. OysterLab's approach combines multilingual communication, integrated settlement, and a roadmap for smarter discovery through AI. By positioning great creative matches as a matter of taste rather than geography, the company aims to build a more accessible global infrastructure for customized illustration work.
