Open Cosmos, a European leader in satellite infrastructure, connectivity and real-time intelligence, has announced a €300 million funding round led by European investors. The round includes Lightrock, ETF Partners, Institut Català de Finances, Entrepreneurs First, two major international pension funds, Convex Group, the National Security Strategic Investment Fund, Phoenix Court and Claret Capital Partners. The capital will support expanded satellite manufacturing and faster delivery of intelligence and connectivity services.

Strengthening Europe’s Sovereign Space Capability

The company has recorded five consecutive years of profitable growth and maintains a high mission success rate in orbit for governments, space agencies and large infrastructure clients. Open Cosmos currently operates four factories across Europe with the capacity to manufacture one satellite per day. Its OpenConstellation initiative recently launched next-generation satellites designed to cut Earth observation intelligence delivery from up to 48 hours to as little as 30 minutes.

Open Cosmos has also shown rapid execution in connectivity services. Within two months of securing access to Liechtenstein’s Ka-band spectrum filings, the company launched its first ConnectedCosmos satellites. It has signed more than 370 million dollars in customer contracts over the past three and a half years, reflecting strong demand for sovereign space systems.

Scaling Europe’s Integrated Space Platform

Space is increasingly viewed as a critical layer of sovereignty and strategic autonomy for companies and governments. European governments are now treating space systems as core infrastructure, investing in secure communications and Earth observation to reduce reliance on non-European capabilities. Global venture capital investment in space reached 11.3 billion dollars in the first half of 2026, surpassing the 10.1 billion dollars recorded across all of 2025.

Open Cosmos has spent a decade building an intelligence layer around Earth where satellites observe, connect and work together. Its integrated platform includes OpenOrbit for satellite design and operations, OpenConstellation for shared infrastructure, ConnectedCosmos for secure broadband and IoT connectivity, and DataCosmos for turning sensor data into operational intelligence. The new funding will expand these services and scale engineering, manufacturing and software teams across the UK, Spain, Portugal and Greece, where the company employs close to 400 people.

A practical scenario illustrates the system’s value. An OpenConstellation satellite could detect an unusual temperature rise over a forest and use onboard AI to identify a potential fire. It could then relay that intelligence through ConnectedCosmos directly to responders, task additional satellites, and provide resilient connectivity if terrestrial networks fail.

Investor and Government Confidence

Founder and CEO Rafel Jorda Siquier said space infrastructure is becoming as critical as energy, digital networks and transport, and that real value comes from intelligence and global connectivity. UK Space Minister Baroness Lloyd called the investment a major vote of confidence in Open Cosmos and Britain’s growing space sector. Lightrock Partner Ashish Puri said the firm is delighted to lead the round and support a European leader in the space economy.

ETF Partners Managing Partner Patrick Sheehan noted that conditions for building world-leading space companies have converged in Europe and praised Open Cosmos for converting expertise into commercial results at pace. Phoenix Court co-founder Saul Klein added that the team has built a profitable space company capable of manufacturing satellites at scale. These endorsements highlight the strategic importance of the funding for European industrial capability.

With the new capital, Open Cosmos intends to accelerate satellite manufacturing orders from governments and large companies while expanding its sovereign service offerings. The round reinforces Europe’s growing momentum in space technology and its push for greater strategic autonomy. Open Cosmos is positioned to strengthen the region’s ability to monitor, understand and respond to events on Earth in near real time.
