Oak HC/FT has appointed Marc Andrusko as a new Partner on its fintech investment team, a move signaling the firm's strategic focus on the evolving financial technology landscape. Andrusko's extensive experience, which spans traditional finance, data infrastructure, and artificial intelligence, directly aligns with the firm's expanded investment thesis. His appointment underscores Oak HC/FT's commitment to backing companies at the intersection of AI and modern enterprise finance.

A Strategic Vision for Fintech's Future

Oak HC/FT is redefining its approach to financial technology, moving beyond the modernization of legacy systems. The firm now views fintech as the convergence of technology and money, encompassing a broader spectrum of companies. This expanded definition includes not only traditional fintech but also businesses that influence financial decisions and risk management.

The venture capital firm believes the most impactful companies will emerge from the intersection of AI and enterprise financial architecture. This forward-looking perspective suggests a shift away from solely focusing on Wall Street or payment ecosystems. Instead, the emphasis is on foundational AI platforms with deep financial logic at their core.

Andrusko's Unique Expertise

Marc Andrusko brings a unique combination of operational and investment experience that mirrors the industry's evolution. His career began at Goldman Sachs in roles across corporate development, strategy, and capital markets. This foundation in traditional finance provides him with a deep understanding of the sector's core mechanics.

He later transitioned to Plaid, where he led the personal financial management vertical, gaining crucial experience in the data infrastructure that underpins modern financial services. Most recently at Andreessen Horowitz, he led investments in B2B AI applications and fintech. His focus areas included capital markets, payments infrastructure, and the CFO technology stack.

A Synergistic Partnership

Matt Streisfeld, a General Partner at Oak HC/FT, highlighted the strategic importance of this new appointment. He stated that Andrusko is precisely the partner the firm sought to lead its charge into this expanded definition of fintech. Streisfeld praised Andrusko's rare "full-stack perspective," which covers traditional finance, modern infrastructure, and emerging AI applications.

Andrusko expressed his enthusiasm for joining a firm with both a credible track record and a strong conviction for fintech's future. He noted that the opportunity to apply his operator and early-stage investor lens to Oak's prolific growth equity platform felt like a perfect fit. He has observed fintech's expansion into vertical software and AI firsthand over the last decade.

The appointment of Marc Andrusko marks a significant step for Oak HC/FT, reinforcing its strategic pivot towards an AI-centric investment philosophy in the financial technology sector. His comprehensive background is expected to be instrumental in identifying and nurturing the next wave of companies redefining enterprise finance. Andrusko, a magna cum laude graduate of Duke University, will be based in the firm's New York and Connecticut offices.
