Nuvocargo, an AI-native logistics platform for North America, has announced its acquisition of Mentum, a San Francisco-based startup also backed by Y Combinator. The strategic move is designed to accelerate Nuvocargo’s development of artificial intelligence agents for freight and logistics management. As part of the acquisition, Mentum's team, including founder and CEO Gustavo Trigos, will be integrated into Nuvocargo's research and development organization.

Strategic Alignment and AI Philosophy

The acquisition creates a strong strategic fit, as Mentum has been developing AI agents to automate legacy workflows within the supply chain. This work directly complements the product roadmap for NuvoOS, Nuvocargo’s proprietary AI-native transportation management system. While the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, the integration is expected to fast-track the deployment of advanced automation across Nuvocargo's platform.

A shared philosophy on AI implementation was a key driver for the partnership between the two companies. Both organizations believe in building AI agents that handle tedious, repetitive work without requiring users to adopt entirely new platforms. This approach allows human employees to focus on higher-value tasks such as deepening customer relationships and strategic planning, thereby augmenting their capabilities.

Integrating Expertise and Experience

Mentum brings significant production experience from its work with mid-market manufacturers across the United States. The team successfully implemented AI agents that automate quoting, proposal, and purchase order workflows with various suppliers. This hands-on engagement provided them with deep insights into the operational pain points that supply chain professionals face daily.

Nuvocargo CEO Deepak Chhugani highlighted the unique value of Gustavo Trigos' leadership and background. Trigos combines expertise in data science and AI product development with a multicultural perspective and the founder DNA fostered by Y Combinator. This alignment in experience and culture is expected to facilitate a smooth and productive integration of the teams.

A Vision for an AI-Native Future

According to Gustavo Trigos, a shared vision for how AI can transform supply chains was a primary motivator for the agreement. He noted that Nuvocargo has already earned the trust of major enterprises and built the foundational platform necessary to deploy Mentum's agent technology at scale. The combined expertise will be directed at solving complex logistics challenges, including visibility, compliance, and payments orchestration.

Nuvocargo's long-term strategy is centered on the belief that the future of logistics will be defined by AI-native platforms. The company's approach combines its proprietary NuvoOS system with a human-in-the-loop framework. This model ensures that AI agents augment human capabilities, allowing for effective oversight and management of exceptions and errors.

Continued Growth and Expansion

This transaction marks Nuvocargo's third acquisition since its inception and its second in 2025. Earlier this year, the company acquired Merge, a move that expanded its operational focus from the U.S.-Mexico cross-border market to the entire North American continent. The addition of Mentum further solidifies Nuvocargo's commitment to leveraging technology to enhance its continental logistics services.

The integration of Mentum's team and technology represents a significant step in Nuvocargo's mission to build a premier AI-driven logistics platform. By combining specialized AI agent expertise with its established operational foundation, Nuvocargo is well-positioned to enhance its service offerings for shippers across North America. This strategic acquisition underscores the company's ongoing commitment to driving innovation within the supply chain industry.
