London and New York based insurtech Nettle announced on Tuesday that it has secured US$4.8 million in an oversubscribed Seed round led by MTech. Project A, Sure Valley Ventures, Portfolio Ventures, and Ventures Together also participated. The investment brings Nettle's total funding to US$6.8 million following its US$2 million Pre-Seed round in March 2025.
The Loss Control Challenge
Commercial insurers are managing more risks with fewer experienced risk engineers, creating a structural bottleneck in Loss Control. Many teams already face inspection backlogs of up to six months, and an estimated 40% of risk engineers are expected to retire by 2030. Nettle was built to address this gap by unifying risk identification, evidence capture, analysis, and reporting in a single workspace.
How the AI Workspace Operates
The platform helps insurers complete risk inspections five times faster and manage exposures more effectively across the policy lifecycle. Underwriters gain more timely and higher quality data, while risk engineers can concentrate on the complex risks where their expertise matters most. Nettle identifies risks remotely, supports guided inspections, analyzes video and images, and turns evidence into reports and risk scores.
Enterprise Features and Expanding Use Cases
Initially built for Commercial Property, the platform has expanded to cover Liability, Construction, and Workers' Compensation lines. Nettle is now extending the same technology to agents and policyholders, allowing insurers to collect risk data on sites they previously could not economically inspect. Enterprise deployment options include cloud and on-premise support, regional data residency, and enterprise-grade security.
Market Traction Across Three Continents
Nettle already works with insurers including Allianz and Brotherhood Mutual across Europe, the United States, and Asia. The company has helped risk engineers complete inspections five times faster and supports lines beyond Commercial Property. Its capacity to analyze images, video, audio, documents, and third party data gives insurers faster evidence-based decisions.
Founding Team and Investor Confidence
Nettle was founded in 2024 by former QuantumBlack colleagues Jack Miller and Katya Kinane, who previously built and deployed AI products across insurance and financial services at McKinsey. Jack Miller, Nettle co-founder and CEO, said the platform turns Loss Control into a competitive advantage by removing the ceiling created by team capacity. Kevin McLoughlin, Founder and Managing Partner at MTech, noted that top global insurers are adopting the platform with minimal integration effort.
Data Collection and Decision Support
The AI workspace removes the constraint historically tied to the number of risk engineers an insurer employs. It helps insurers collect and understand physical risk evidence across far more of their portfolios while reserving scarce engineering expertise for the most complex cases. Reports, risk scores, and recommendations that previously took days can now be produced in seconds, giving customers instant insights for faster decisions.
Growth Plans and Use of Funds
The new capital will support Nettle's expansion across the United States and Europe while growing its engineering and go-to-market teams. The company plans to scale what it has proven across three continents and broaden availability to existing and new insurer customers. The funding is expected to deepen enterprise adoption and accelerate product development for additional insurance lines.
Nettle's oversubscribed Seed round highlights investor support for AI solutions that address a growing shortage in commercial insurance Loss Control. By enabling risk engineers, agents, and policyholders to capture and analyze risk evidence more efficiently, the company aims to remove longstanding capacity constraints. As Nettle scales across the United States and Europe, it is positioned to help insurers turn Loss Control from a bottleneck into a competitive advantage.
