Neno, an AI-native financial services platform for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), has successfully closed a €6.6 million seed funding round. The investment was led by New York-based venture fund AlleyCorp, with participation from Motive Partners and Firstminute Capital. This new capital will fuel the company's mission to automate financial administration and expand its innovative services across Europe.

Addressing a Fragmented Market

Neno is targeting a significant challenge within Europe's €200 billion professional services industry for SMEs. Many businesses struggle with fragmented workflows across banking, accounting, and tax, making it difficult to gain clear financial insights. This issue is compounded by a structural shortage of accounting professionals, which puts immense pressure on traditional service models.

This environment has created what the company calls a "broken middle," where SMEs are underserved by outdated software and overburdened accountants. Business owners often juggle multiple tools and face unpredictable fees for services that feel disconnected from their daily operations. Neno aims to solve this by providing a unified, transparent, and efficient alternative to the decades-old operating model.

An AI-Native Approach to Finance

At the core of Neno's platform is an AI-native workspace built around a real-time agentic general ledger (AGL). This system consolidates data from bank accounts, corporate cards, and invoices into a single, unified record. By centralizing this information, the platform provides a comprehensive and contextualized view of a company's financial health.

Leveraging this unified data, Neno automates and accelerates critical processes like bank reconciliation and VAT preparation. The company reports that its technology can complete these tasks up to five times faster than traditional methods. As a result, clients save an average of eight hours of administrative work per month and reduce their annual accounting fees by approximately 20 percent.

Empowering Accountants, Not Replacing Them

Neno's strategy is not to replace human accountants but to significantly enhance their capabilities and efficiency. The platform is designed to act as a capacity multiplier, automating routine administrative tasks that typically consume a large portion of an accountant's time. This allows professionals to focus more on providing high-value advisory services to their clients.

By using Neno's AI infrastructure, a single accountant can effectively manage hundreds of customers, a stark contrast to the traditional capacity of around thirty. This approach directly addresses the industry's talent shortage by making each professional more productive. It ensures that quality is not compromised while scaling the delivery of financial services to a broader market.

Strategic Funding for Future Growth

The €6.6 million in seed funding provides a strong foundation for Neno's next phase of development and expansion. A key initiative will be the launch of Neno Labs, a dedicated research and development team focused on advancing Ambient AI. This investment underscores the company's commitment to remaining at the forefront of financial technology innovation.

Beyond research, the capital will be used to increase the capacity of its accounting and tax service teams. The company also plans to bolster its go-to-market efforts in the Netherlands before preparing for a strategic expansion into other European markets in 2027. This phased approach is designed to ensure sustainable growth and market penetration.

Vision for the Future of SME Finance

Neno Labs will explore the transition from agentic AI, which responds to user commands, to Ambient AI. This next-generation system will proactively monitor a business's finances and act autonomously within predefined parameters. The goal is to create a financial management system that is increasingly invisible, only surfacing insights when human judgment is required.

With its successful €6.6 million funding round and a clear technological vision, Neno is well-positioned to disrupt the traditional SME financial services sector. The company's AI-native platform addresses critical industry pain points, offering a more efficient and integrated solution for businesses and accountants alike. As Neno scales its operations and advances its AI capabilities, it is poised to become a key player in reshaping the future of financial administration in Europe.
