Naxatra Labs, a deeptech startup specializing in high-efficiency electric motors, has secured $3 million in a Pre-Series A funding round. The investment was led by Rainmatter, Zerodha's venture fund, and saw participation from a host of prominent angel investors. This capital infusion is earmarked to accelerate the company's research, expand manufacturing, and bolster its presence in global markets.

Strategic Investment to Fuel Expansion

The company plans to channel the new funds into significantly scaling its production capabilities to a target of 50,000 motors per month. This expansion is a direct response to the surging demand for advanced motor solutions driven by the rapid electrification of vehicles. Naxatra will also enhance its research and development stack to pioneer new motor platforms for high-growth industrial applications.

A key objective of this funding is to strengthen Naxatra's foothold in international markets, positioning India as a viable manufacturing alternative. By developing its technology from first principles, the company aims to reduce the industry's dependence on imported drivetrain components. This strategic push into exports aligns with the growing global demand for reliable and energy-efficient motor systems.

A Vote of Confidence from Industry Leaders

The funding round attracted a notable roster of investors, including Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma and Delhivery co-founder Mohit Tandon. Their participation underscores the growing confidence within the Indian startup ecosystem for deeptech and cleantech manufacturing ventures. This backing provides Naxatra with not just capital but also invaluable strategic guidance from seasoned entrepreneurs.

Vishvesh from lead investor Rainmatter highlighted the firm's focus on founders solving complex problems with foundational innovation. He expressed confidence that Naxatra is perfectly aligned with this vision, building critical electromagnetic devices designed and manufactured entirely in India. Rainmatter believes the team is poised to make significant waves in the field and inspire further innovation.

Pioneering In-House Motor Technology

Founded in 2021 by Abhilash Maurya, Arnav Biswas, and Piyush Verma, Naxatra Labs has established itself as a key innovator. The company specializes in both axial-flux and radial-flux motors, which are renowned for delivering high torque in a compact form factor. These motors serve a diverse range of sectors, including electric vehicles and advanced agricultural machinery.

Naxatra distinguishes itself by managing the entire motor lifecycle in-house, from initial electromagnetic design and validation to final assembly. This comprehensive control has enabled the company to successfully transition multiple products from the research lab to mass production. The result is a portfolio of motors that are more lightweight and efficient than many standard market offerings.

This $3 million investment marks a pivotal moment for Naxatra Labs, equipping it with the resources to scale aggressively. The funding not only validates the company's technological prowess but also strengthens its capacity to meet domestic and global demand. As a result, Naxatra is well-positioned to play a crucial role in advancing India’s sustainable mobility and industrial electrification goals.
