US-based semiconductor firm Mythic AI has formally launched a Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, the company announced on 23 September, as it deepens its engineering footprint and market focus in India. The centre will contribute to the company's next-generation Vanguard AI inference platform across chip design, physical design, design-for-test, systems and applications engineering. The move follows a December 2025 funding announcement that identified data centres, automotive, robotics and defence as priority markets.
Bengaluru Centre to Support Vanguard and End-to-End Development
The Bengaluru team will initially support front-end and physical design as well as design-for-test activities for the Vanguard platform. Mythic AI plans to expand responsibilities into product engineering, testing and characterisation, systems engineering and intelligent sensing chip development. Chairman and CEO Taner Ozcelik said India has an exceptional talent pool and expects the centre to design and take some products to market end to end.
Data Centre Efficiency Leads India Market Strategy
Data centres are expected to be among Mythic AI's first target markets in India as rising AI compute demand puts pressure on power infrastructure. The company's pitch focuses on enabling more AI inference within existing power availability rather than simply reducing electricity costs. Ozcelik said energy constraints could become a limiting factor as AI workloads scale, making efficiency central to the company's India entry.
Analog Architecture Reduces Data Movement
Mythic AI's analog compute-in-memory architecture performs computation within memory and reduces data movement between memory and processors. The company claims its approach can deliver up to 100 times greater system-level efficiency than conventional digital or GPU inference. This efficiency argument is being positioned for data centre operators that need to expand AI capacity without proportional increases in power consumption.
Automotive and Robotics Applications
Beyond data centres, Mythic AI is targeting automotive applications in India, supported by a joint development agreement with Honda for an automotive AI system-on-chip. The company sees physical AI as a common layer across robotics, automotive and defence because these systems require real-time processing within tight power constraints. Ozcelik noted that robotics and factory automation represent a growing Indian opportunity, and he hopes to see Mythic chips in autonomous systems on Bengaluru roads.
Defence and Edge Opportunities
India's defence technology ecosystem may provide another market for low-power AI chips in drones, intelligent sensing and edge systems. Mythic AI has identified defence and security as target applications, while India is increasing its focus on autonomous systems, sensors and defence electronics. The company's technology is being developed for workloads including vision transformers and other AI models used in physical-world applications.
India Team Expected to Quadruple by 2027
The Bengaluru centre currently contributes about a quarter of the work on Vanguard, and Ozcelik expects that share could approach half as its role expands. The team is expected to quadruple in size by the first quarter of 2027, covering disciplines such as VLSI design, physical design, DFT, systems and applications engineering. Manoj Kumar, vice-president of Mythic India, said Bengaluru offers a strong blend of specialised semiconductor engineering talent for the company's roadmap.
Manufacturing Potential Follows Ecosystem Build-Out
Mythic AI also sees a longer-term possibility for chip manufacturing and advanced packaging in India as the domestic ecosystem matures, though no facility has been announced. The company currently has production in Germany and Arizona and packaging elsewhere in Asia. Ozcelik said India production could become possible over time, and part of the company's die-to-die packaging work may be driven from India.
Mythic AI's expansion combines a growing semiconductor development capability in Bengaluru with a local market push for energy-efficient AI inference. The company plans to engage Indian ecosystem partners to understand requirements around lower-energy and lower-footprint computing. As the centre takes on more complex product responsibilities, Mythic AI is positioning India as both an engineering base and a strategic market for its analog compute-in-memory technology.
