Nigerian fintech leader Moniepoint has acquired Orda, a cloud-based restaurant management platform, in a significant move to embed its payment solutions into merchants' daily operations. Orda will be rebranded as Moniebook for Restaurants and integrated into Moniepoint’s business management suite, Moniebook. This strategic acquisition underscores Moniepoint's evolution from a payment processor to a full-stack operating system for African businesses.
A Strategic Move into the Food Service Sector
The acquisition targets Nigeria’s burgeoning food service industry, a market projected to reach $12.37 billion by 2026. Moniepoint already processes significant transaction volumes from this sector, with data showing Nigerians spent approximately $5.83 million daily at restaurants using its infrastructure in 2025. Tosin Eniolorunda, Moniepoint's Group CEO, noted that while the sector is a dynamic economic engine, most businesses still rely on inefficient manual processes.
Orda provides a solution tailored to the unique complexities of restaurant management, which generic bookkeeping platforms often overlook. The platform handles specific needs like ingredient tracking, menu management, and recipe combinations, which are critical for food businesses. Its effectiveness is demonstrated by its adoption by major chains, including those under the Eat’N’Go group, which operates Domino’s Pizza and Cold Stone Creamery franchises in Nigeria.
Integrating Payments and Operations
The integration aims to unify the currently fragmented sales process in most restaurants into a single, streamlined system. Under the new Moniebook for Restaurants, cashiers will record sales and process payments through a Moniepoint terminal within the same software. This seamless workflow automatically confirms payments, closes transactions, and generates a comprehensive receipt, eliminating the need for manual reconciliation between separate systems.
This unified approach directly addresses operational inefficiencies and the risk of payment leakage from misdirected transfers or unofficial terminals. By linking transactions directly to the business’s management system, all payments are securely routed to the merchant's account. Over time, the rich transaction data generated can also enable Moniepoint to offer tailored financial products, such as working capital loans based on business performance.
Expanding the Ecosystem and Future Outlook
A key priority for the integration is enhancing connectivity with popular food delivery platforms like Chowdeck and Glovo. Orda already allows restaurants to receive and manage orders from these aggregators directly within its dashboard. Expanding this feature within the broader Moniebook ecosystem will further streamline operations for restaurants managing orders from multiple channels, including walk-in customers and online apps.
This acquisition is a cornerstone of Moniepoint's broader strategy to build a comprehensive operating system for African businesses. By embedding its payment infrastructure within the essential operational software that merchants use daily, the company creates a stickier ecosystem. While the deal, which covers Orda's Nigerian operations, will boost transaction volumes, the primary goal is to deepen its integration into the business value chain.
Moniepoint's acquisition of Orda marks a pivotal step in its strategic evolution, promising a more efficient, integrated future for Nigeria's food service industry. For restaurant owners, the merger offers a unified platform to manage everything from inventory to payments, while for Moniepoint, it solidifies its position as an indispensable partner for business growth. This move highlights a growing trend of consolidation in Africa's tech landscape, setting a new standard for embedded financial services.
