Glasgow-based biopharmaceutical firm Mironid has successfully closed a €39.9 million ($46 million) Series B financing round to advance its leading drug candidate for a common genetic kidney disease. The funding, led by the Scottish National Investment Bank, will propel the company's first-in-class treatment for Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD) through clinical development. This significant investment underscores strong confidence in Mironid's innovative approach to tackling degenerative and rare diseases.


Strong Syndicate Backing

The financing round saw the Scottish National Investment Bank join a robust syndicate of Mironid's existing investors, highlighting sustained belief in the company's mission. This group includes prominent names such as the Roche Venture Fund, Epidarex Capital, Sofinnova Partners, and BioGeneration Ventures. The continued participation of these high-caliber backers serves as a powerful validation of Mironid's scientific platform and development strategy.

Addressing a Critical Unmet Need

Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease is the most common hereditary kidney disorder, affecting over 12 million people globally. The disease is characterized by the uncontrolled growth of fluid-filled cysts in the kidneys, which often leads to severe complications. Tragically, approximately half of all patients with ADPKD will develop kidney failure by the age of 60, creating an urgent need for more effective treatments.

Mironid's lead candidate is a first-in-class LoAc small molecule designed to directly target a cellular signal known as cyclic AMP (cAMP). This signal is a key driver of both cell proliferation and fluid secretion within the cysts at all stages of the disease.
